The Pool of The Abyss
Hidden deep within lands once controlled by the Vampire Princes is a small pool of mystic, unholy water. Strange jagged rocks, engraved in words of a long forgotten tongue elevates the pool several feet above the Red Lake. A pungent smell hangs in the heavy air, masking the once beautiful scent found in this once beautiful place. The water that pools over, dripping into the lake boils, a mist forming as the two waters mix. Where there was once many trees is now an open area, the vegetation trampled under foot. Brutal storms wrack the land, giving breaks in the near constant power struggle.
These waters are contested by three rival forces, for it is believed that it contains the remains of an Old God. When this being awakens under the moonless sky, it will grant its favor upon a single champion. The depictions of this deity, and what it will provide varies from culture to culture. The Vampire Princes maintain that this deity is one of their own lost gods, wrapped in the cloaks of purity but unable to enter the afterlife due to the filth of this world. Thusly, the vampires believe that this god will grant favorable gifts to them as their birthright. The stalwart Kingdoms from across the sea has sent many knights in a quest to retake the deity. They claim that it is a god-slayer and it's offered blessings will be denied, rather, used to bring back their slain goddess. The beastial god-slayer will be brought back in chains for judgement. From the dark woods rides an Elf Queen and her hoast. She holds claim to the waters themselves, and to the tree spirits lost during these battles. The Elves hold that there is no divinity besides their own, and that the waters must be reclaimed for the Elves, for drinking it will strengthen them into a new age; one where the Elves hold dominion over their rightful land.
Only a select few know of the extent of the sacrifice needed to complete the ritual, for those that have been given this knowledge have been tested and deemed worthy of the Dark Gifts. The blood of a thousand lesser beings has turned the water surrounding the pool into a permanenet red. The blood of tens of thousands may be what is needed to awaken the deity.
