Ysdale
Where the Eagles Soar
Ysdale is known for its beautiful gems and jewelry, and its graceful hills over which the Golden eagle soars on warm winds. Count Saymir Talazar and his wife rule over this vista of waving grains and sheep dotted hills with a loving touch. Their lands have been graced with many wonderful attributes, from beautiful rivers, to majestic forests, and fertile grasslands. The people of Ysdale are kind and welcoming, but like all careful people, they are wary of groups of armed travelers. But once show to be peaceful, their homes and hearths are opened to share. The diversity of this land is something the count is especially proud of, as humans, wood elves, halflings, gnomes and hill dwarves all call this land home.
Structure
The Count of Ysdale rules with the assistance of his wife, the Countess Valuwen, and his council of advisors, chief among them, the elven Mage Gasilreth. The Count is a cousin of the Duchess of Ysward and one of her closest advisors, and she is often involved in decisions that the Count makes.
Assets
Gems and ore from the central hills. Good farmland and pastures for livestock. Rivers full of fish.
History
Ysdale was given to the current Count's family when a younger brother of the the once King of Ysward needed some land of his own. Ysdale has always been a strong and loyal supporter of the kingdom and now duchy, and derives a lot of benefit from its close familial relationship with the Duchess.
Demography and Population
Ysdale has a large population of mostly humans, halflings, gnomes, and hill dwarves who work the farms, fields and mining operations of the County. There is also a significant enclave of wood elves in the eastern forest. Most of the population is found in smaller towns and villages, but there are several larger population centers as well, including the capital, Reradg.

Military
The armed forces of the Count include several calvary units, supported by archers and footmen. Most notably the wood elf militia is supported by druids and sorcerers that are very effective in disrupting an enemy's plans. Each Lord or knight is expected to provide troops and militia relative to their holdings, and especially in the northern towns, these militia units receive a lot of training and first hand experience against the Horse Clans, and now against the Hobgoblins that are moving in from the northeast.
A typical mounted soldier will have chain armor, a shield, a spear or lance, and a sword or mace. Archers are typically in leather armor with longbows and arrows, plus a hand axe or short sword. The footmen, typically have armor ranging from padded up to chain, and carry spears, polearms and either axes or short swords.
Religion
While there are small Temples in every town, the only large Temple is in the capital.
Agriculture & Industry
Ysdale has plenty of agricultural land and pastures for livestock. Many different trades take place in the cities and towns, and Reradg has a large jewel makers guild that cuts and sets the gems that come in from the central region mines.
