Asmodeus
Asmodeus is the undisputed ruler of the Layers of Hell. All other Archdevils report directly to him, and only have their station because he allows them to have it.
He claims to have a daughter in Glasya, although it is not known if he has the capability of producing offspring, but none dare dispute his claim. While it can be said he survived The Reckoning of Hell, that would be a gross mis-characterization of what happened, as he was never in any danger. He outmaneuvered all the other Archdevils before they even made a move against him.
His origins are a mystery, as few beings are as ancient as he is. However, there is one story that holds more credibility than others.
Long ago, before things were what they are, there existed two Great Primordial Serpents, Jazirian and Ahriman. Jariza and Ahriman created all things, and bound them together within their power, by biting each others tails, creating a massive circle. But, when it came time to decide on a center, they disagreed. Jarizan wanted the center to be the Heavenly Spheres, while Ahriman wanted it to be Baator, now known as the Layers of Hell.
In their struggle, they bit off the other's tail, but that left Ahriman at a disadvantage, because only Jaziran had wings. This left Ahriman to fall into Baator, where he landed in the deepest layer, and the crater known as The Serpent's Coil. From this crater, he formed Malsheem, his citadel.
Not content with his new position, he changed his name to Asmodeus and returned to the Heavenly Spheres to get the other gods to agree to sign what was known as The Pact Primeval. Later, the Gods felt that Asmodeus had betrayed their agreement, and he was subject to The Trial of Asmodeus.
