Can En (Can- inn)

"A ruler centuries ahead of his time"

-King Vhou Riyael, The Unyielding

Roja Pride Leader (a.k.a. The Craftsman)

Can En is generally remembered as a kind ruler, regardless of the Yunbad slaughter on Renad-Pai. Can En is known to have condemned the use of fire magics for slaughter, believing that Roja and her people's identities were tied to their craftsmanship, skill, and commerce. Through this ideology, Interferent Metallurgy was born. Most magical artifacts in circulation today are from the period between the discovery of fire magics and the end of the 2nd age.   Can En reported that he did not feel in control of himself when assisting in the wiping out of the Yunbad, but past this event his focus was always on establishing peace. He wished to abandon roots of savagery and promote a peaceful existence amongst his people. Although they never met, Can En and King Riyael were good friends, and a collection of their correspondence is preserved in a museum behind the walls of Nim. A copy of the codex was held in Roja, though it was destroyed in riots between J'bar insurgents and the Rojan government.   Can En's life was dedicated to Riiji's teachings of balance and cycles. He spent much of his late rulership in recompense for the elimination of the Yunbad slaves on Renad Pai and believed that the J'barri were tainted by their eventual extinction, but they could still change with enough time. He was quick to ban fire magic and many of his last orders were attempts to retrieve magic artifacts from the Ocean Pride and to diminish their influence. He was furious when he learned that most of his people's artifacts ended up in the hands of humans, who mostly ignored the lessons taught by the Mountainfold.

History

Though they never met in person, Riyael attended Can-en's funeral. Their friendship benefited both parties, as well as their people.

The Pledge Correspondence

This 149 page codex contains the original copies of letters from Can-en, and copies of Riyael's responses. The original Riyael letters were burned with this collection's sister codex in Roja. The codex begins as an apology for the coarse history between Roja, Renad-Pai, and the Elvish people. From there, it becomes a military assurance of support between the kingdom of Nim and the city of Roja. As a way to ensure all of Roja's profit wasn't scalped by Kala's trade tarrifs, they agreed to trade directly in times of conflict. In exchange, fire forged weapons would only be given to Eastern Elves should the small (at the time) insurgent groups within Nim become a fully fledged opponent on the continent of Silse.    After the assurance, 108 pages are purely dedicated to communication between the two rulers. One could even call them 'pen pals.' While the occasional discussion of money or tactics came up, they generally seemed to enjoy the discussion of their culture, philosophy, and respective national histories. Almost all of Renadi understanding of Elvish history is through these notes, which also explains why they hold such a distaste for the Western Elves.   After Can-en's death at 75, 15 years into the 3rd era, Riyael put aside his focus on the Western Elves. He travelled across the Palm of Silse to attend the funeral, and this would be the only time he saw Can-en with his own eyes.
