Jadethorn

Jadethorn is a military settlement in the easternmost archipelago of Mot D'nir. The settlement rests on the northern end of the land, within the tropical dry lands. Due to its geographical location and biome, the land sees excessive rainfall from the 3-7 months of the year while nearly entering a drought the rest of the year. Its position was strategically chosen to deal with threats to Mot D'nir, the Augury, and the Snow Rock Isles. Within the recesses of the settlement is a series of prisons, which serves as little more than a place for its residents to die out their despicable days.

The City

The city, regardless of its yearly dichotomy between waterlogged soil and drought, is a comfortable military settlement, all thing considered. It contains a diverse population of humans from various nations, Tara-Jhen, Naga-Tel, and a marked increase in Kaban recently. Its buildings give a taste of each culture present, with communal yurts on the outskirts and stone brutalism in the center. The city is walled into 9 distinct columns, each with their own complex systems of canals for the purposes of directing waters for purposes of both traversal, public health, or crowd control.   Outside the walls are a series of ports, piers, and wide-ranging housing in the form of overwater bungalows. While these are typically housing for guards, they contain battlements, should the prison become overtaken from the inside. Should the prisoners manage to move beyond the wall, the coastal architecture and floating bridges can be detached, preventing the inmates from gaining more ground.   4 major trade facilities line the outside of the settlement, which are only accessible to most travelers during the waterlogged summer and fall months, as the settlement is too secluded (and out of the way) to reach on foot. During the waterlogged months with increased attendance, the facilities maintain taverns, cultural exchange clubs, and family meetings for the present soldiers or guards.

The Prison

The prison contains a mix of elves, humans, and Tara-Jhen. There are 4 separate facilities, all of which underwent renovation in the year 1805 NG. Its brutalist architecture, lack of windows, and cold stone walls tell visitors everything they need to know at first sight. Built upon a dry mound of soil out of the waterline's reach, the prisons have extensive foundations of concrete in order to ensure erosion causes no issues into the future.   The inmates receive no visitation and most are held in solitary confinement, though the largest facility is for those who show no violent tendencies, where they may socialize in the cafeteria or outside lot. While any prisoner may also request visitation from a priest, only the largest religions of the continent are represented. On rare occasion, an outside priest may be vetted, if a relative of the inmate is willing to pay for their travel. As one may expect, the prison is run by a warden, selected by the duke of Newmot. This warden also holds positions of authority within the city, as their contract states, though they often delegate these responsibilities to any individual of their choosing.

The Winter Transfer

Due to the waterlogged soil in the Jadethorn archipelago, prison transfers only occur during the winter months. While the prison is accessible by boat at other times of year, the prisoners are transferred on foot due to an incident that occurred just before The Silence   , where a prison vessel was commandeered with a high profile terrorist within. The walk method is unknown to most, making it a safe option for transferring prisoners.
Silence, Destruction, and Reformation
the dawn of the year 1792, Jadethorn prison was infiltrated by Arniel Kane's forces, via a subversion of the Quai. As aberrations and cultists were released from the Realm of the Quai, the prison became overwhelmed and the city was evacuated of visitors. While the prison had several protocols for invasion, they had hardly expected a full force invasion, especially from a force that hardly feared death. To make matters worse, infighting occurred between several guards and a particular prisoner was an infiltrator, who had been anticipating the riot for months. Griar Krill, who murdered one of the two consuls within the Augury, was a skilled member of his community, and sprung when the invasion began. Fortunately for the world, Kane viewed him as little more than a pawn, having him hunted down upon escaping.
With only few guards and some local bignames escaping, the event was considered a disaster of historical proportions. Most prisoners within were slain, the very walls were converted into a disgusting biomatter husk for the growth of a hive. Within, more aberrations were produced with the corpses being used for their structural resources. It would be nearly a year before the prison was taken back, but it would be unusable for over a decade. It served as a valuable position to take from Arniel Kane nonetheless, furthering the plight of Mot D'nir against The Silence .
In the years following The Silence, Jadethorn would be renovated by Augury dispatches, led by Luther Andus, new warden of Jadethorn. It would go through a series of regulation and employment changes, with the biggest change being the removal of Quai territory from within city grounds.
