Sahra Abdul IV
Sahra Abdul IV, grandson of Emperor Sahra Abdul III, ascended to the throne as Saltkrigere Emperor due to his father's inability to rule (his memory was increasingly poor in old age). Abdul IV would make the bold decision to raise a Saint's Maar military, independent of the Saltkrigere after 13 years of ruling. As he tried to appease Eldurgrund's various desires (always an unpopular decision for a Saltkrigere Emperor), he feared that the Saltkrigere guard and military were more loyal to Shellbay itself rather than the whole empire. Abdul IV fundamentally believed that Shellbay itself was no more important than any other territory of the empire, and that every barony deserved to be heard. As he grew more vocal with the court (a virtue he learned from his father), he felt as if they were attempting to stand in the way of improving relations with Eldurgrund. It was both the court and occasional murmurings of envoys from Shellbay that ultimately caused him to raise his own military.
Though they proved less effective than the legendary tales of the Saltkrigere, his private military was loyal enough to sate the emperor. It was when the royal guard was indisposed that Shellbay took action. Several spies were told to infiltrate the ranks of the military, where they subsequently attempted to assassinate Abdul in his sleep. Luckily for Abdul, his new guard had received information from a turncoat, and he was quickly informed. The royal guard wished to find the assassins immediately, but Abdul insisted that they wait in his room while he pretended to sleep, in order to ensure the proper individual was found. When word of the assassination attempt travelled to the court, they began to consider plans for reprimanding Shellbay, including disposing of its baron and Saltkrigere General. Abdul IV objected to this plan, instead wishing to remove Shellbay from the empire entirely. The plan was shut down by the court, appearing too extreme. After taking time to consider his decision, he agreed to the court's plan. Roughly a century later, the emperor's court harkened back to this plan when they officially ousted the Saltkrigere from Saint's Maar and scoured the ranks of the council, court, and military for natives or descendants of Shellbay, exiling them from the city. Ultimately, Emperor Abdul IV's legacy would be planting the seeds that would eventually become the Augury.
Emperor Abdul IV would die during a period of famine across the empire that struck Saint's Maar heavily. He would eventually stake his post in Eldurgrund, as their rice crop was unaffected by the blight. Suspiciously, Abdul would stay in the Eldursteries, rather than Euvurcrest. It was here that the emperor would take to the culture and history of the Elduri before returning to Saint's Maar with his family in subsequent months. Through some form of enlightenment, Abdul decided to fast just as his people would have to. This impacted his wife and children, providing them with just enough to survive while he himself would eventually fall to his demise at the hands of starvation. The diminished upbringing would heavily impact the man's successor and son, emperor Warren Van Haals.
