Yunbad Theocratic Conduit

The Yunbad Theocratic Conduit is what modern researchers have named the governmental body of ancestral Udundst, formed after the expedition to Hawumad. It was organized by High priests, acolytes, and disciples. The High priests were well studied in magic and religion, functioning as leaders and teachers. Acolytes were second in "command," using the magics taught by the priests. They would often die, but this was seen as a blessing. Disciples were acolytes in training. Disciples worked directly with civilians, carrying out acts of charity, clarifying religious questions, and holding local teachings. They were also known for taking care of children in times of need and maintaining water resevoirs.   The collapse of the YTC was their own doing. Selling those in search of progress as slaves, hiding information, and developing a lust for power and control. While other factors contributed to the downfall of the Yunbad, the YTC and their prison-trade was one of the leading causes. Members of the YTC who received their final moments of clarity were responsible for the mountainfold, allegedly, as a form of penance via mass suicide.

Why should priests avoid magic?

Magic was an unknown variable in civilization until now. It had been observed in the natural world, but never wielded. The Yunbad quickly learned of the toll that magic took on the body. It consumed biomatter, shaving off muscle and fat and leaving the users emaciated if enough force was used. Seeing this, the High Priests decided that their knowledge was too valuable to be lost. Replacing acolytes is easy. High Priests is not.

Who led the Theocracy?

The concept for the magic-based organization was Heime, the priest that Denpa spoke to initially regarding Hawumad. Records state that he was a kind figure, but his eventual replacement following his death would be the beginning of the end for the Yunbad. Perhaps they would have fallen anyway, but it is difficult to say. Some say that even Heime himself was corrupt, developing the YTC to selfishly preserve his own health.

What came before the YTC?

The organization was similar, consisting of a high priest, but they had sole command and power. They taught religion still, but the ascension of rulers was purely based on bloodlines. This organization had no acolytes or disciples, purely civilian volunteers.

The original high priesthood

For the Yunbad, religion was based in the observation and reverence of the natural world. They held church service and the like in caverns of their mountains, not touching the natural resources and banning the disturbance of such resources. The YTC continued this observation, but they grew to view themselves as part of this natural world, rather than intelligent outsiders.
