Quarter Broox
Patriarch Quarter Broox
Quarter was born an orphan in a rural part of Ral. He grew up alone, had mental problems and was a thief and criminal. Sometimes he stole to survive, and he often got into trouble with the law for many reasons. One time he even collaborated with The Tar Faction in a smuggling operation. When he was just 19, he had already been to the local prison many times, stolen hundreds of things, killed two people, collaborated with a foreign enemy nation, and was affiliated with gangs and bandits. During his early adult life, he began learning to read and study history, and he found religion. He looked into it and decided to see if any of them were true. After going through many religions, he came to Christianity and found The Orthodox Church, which he joined. It was a long process, but with the help of his priest (who he viewed as a father figure), he rid himself of his past crimes and mistakes, became a deacon, moved to Citar where he lived and became a priest.
When Keka Garrel made her decision to keep a new patriarch of Ral from being appointed after James Suxu died, The Church resorted to having the metropolitans and bishops share the power of the patriarch. Quarter became a bishop in Citar and served the people during the The Ral War.
Quarter grew old and still had to serve the people as a bishop as The Ral War raged on. When The Ral-Reasonarick Split occurred Ral was split into two, and the atheists in government left. The Reasonarick Church of Atheism was created to counter, mock, and serve as a state alternate religion in the new nation of Reasonarick. The chairman who served at this time, Jarek Porv, decided that to counter this, he would give more funds and resources to The Orthodox Church. This was not only to oppose The Reasonarick Church of Atheism, but also to have religious institutions help the suffering Rals more. The biggest part of strengthening the church was not giving it a little bit of money, but instead appointing a proper leader who could speak from authority and make decisions that would benefit the people. Chairman Porv and the united senate overturned Garrel's decision and allowed a patriarch to be appointed. The Orthodox Church had a council and decided that Broox would become the patriarch due to his piety, service, wisdom, and also since he was in Citar, the capital. Quarter accepted this position and became the patriarch of Ral.
After his ordination, he spent time providing services to the people and helping them during The Ral War. He worked very hard and resisted selfish temptations from his past. Quarter was not just a leader of religion, but also a kind man of the people who sought to help all who suffered in the war.
Mysteriously, on the 237th of 1940, Patriarch Broox was found dead in a church in Citar. No one knew how he died, and in death he became a saint. Most just assumed that he died of old age, but others thought that he was killed by someone. In conclusion, he was a well-respected and kind patriarch of Ral who had a troubled past that he put behind him and died a mysterious and unknown death.
