The Var Church
The Var Church was a church that existed and had power from the 81st of 1880 until its destruction in The Ral War on the 291st of 1955 in The Battles Of Lardmost. The church formed when Zuor Salican took the throne and position as monarch and began the ridding of churches and organizing religions in The Salican Dynasty. Many wished to be seen as worthy in the eyes of the king while also having power, influence, and authority. As these people began to band together, they officially formed their own church and organization that was compatible with other faiths and was able to be loyal to the national agenda of the government. Zuor supported it and gave them money, promotion, tax breaks, influence, and made it the state religion. He exempted and excluded them from the persecution, suppression, and killings that were targeted at other Christians who were not loyal to the nation's rule. This new church was called the Var church, and it supported Zuor and the government in all their decisions and had the political message and agenda of the kingdom put in their churches as a mandatory practice. Many from The Orthodox Church defected and joined the new church because of the persecution they faced, which made Orthodoxy weaker and less influential while the Var church gained more favor, followers, riches, and influence.
On the 148th day of 1880 Teri Salican, who was a powerful politician from The Salican Family and Zuor's cousin, was appointed the head of the Var church by Zuor himself. This was because Zuor trusted his cousin, whom he was close to, and wanted to make sure one of his own was in charge of the state religion. Since the Var church was under his control, they obeyed and accepted Teri as the new patriarch and leader of the Var church. Teri had a political agenda and planned to carry it out. He made sure the Var church supported The Ral War and also made sure that he could use the church as a tool against the remaining Orthodox Christians still in The Salican Dynasty.
Many called for reform and a return to Orthodoxy, but they were all silenced and killed. Elsewhere, in the world, those who didn't actively support The Salican Dynasty were generally against the Var church. Everyone was against it except for The Tar Faction, led by Raktari Abira, who had diplomatic ties with The Salican Dynasty in The Ral War. She let the church in her nation express alliance and good will toward her ally to the north. She also began persecuting Orthodox Christians.
When The Aiden League funded rebels and mercenaries in The Salican Dynasty, churches were a target because they were viewed as not religious but government institutions. Many true Christians turned away from the Var church and toward more uncorrupted, pure Orthodox churches that took tradition, ritual, and faith seriously, but most of these people were captured and executed by The Dynasty and the Var church.
During The Battles Of Lardmost, Teri and his bishops were some of many to be killed in the conflict, since they were high ranking in The Dynasty. After this, The Aiden League took control over The Salican Dynasty and abolished the religion. The Battles Of Lardmost are where the church ended since all of its leaders were executed in the conflict.
