Karmoniku Prairie

If you're very quiet, above the soft percussion of the waving grasses, you can hear the spirits of harmony surrounding you. When those spirits are gone, it will be a dark day for everyone.
— Sounith Elder
The Karmoniku Prairie is a grassland located in central Reisouth. It is regarded as the birthplace of peace between the Reicaro and Sounith cultures.

Geography

The prairie lies east of the Virforte Highlands and stretches almost as far as the Colimore Gulf. The large fields of grass are punctuated by groves of trees and small mountain-fed streams that provide homes to wildlife.

Fauna & Flora

The most notable fauna of the Karmoniku Prairie are the bird species that call it home. Many species found in this area are known to possess Power of Melody, and their songs are known to influence other creatures, including humans, in distinct ways. Species captured from the prairie have been bred in captivity for use in melodic therapy and other applications.

History

Prior to and for a short time following The Great Invasion, the Karmoniku Prairie served as the border between the lands of the Reicaro and the Sounith. A treaty was struck between the two groups in 316 AN which declared the lands to be a neutral place of meeting since both groups felt a historical and spiritual connection to the area and neither wished to see it tainted by more bloodshed. The signing of this treaty marked the first instance of what would become known as Harmonic Union, a three-day celebration of the two major powers of the area agreeing to peace. The festival is still celebrated in Reisouth today.   Once peace was established, the prairie served as grazing ground for livestock and occasional meeting place for sporting events and negotiations. The village of Kenmaki was established along the prairie's eastern edge to facilitate trade and would eventually grow to become the capital of Reisouth.

Tourism

While the area sees some tourism due to its historical significance and use as hunting grounds, by far the most busy time for tourism is during Harmonic Union. An annual festival organized by the Reisouth Cultural Society is held on the prairie which features a number of Reicaro and Sounith traditions. During this time many neighboring towns host markets and other events to mark the occasion.
