Drakzkal {Dragonborn}

Description

The Drakzkal, as they generally call themselves, are a humanoid race of draconic-looking creatures. For this reason, they are often called Dragonborn in the Common tongue. They are generally tall, with a weight to match, and are covered in tough scales. Instead of hands, they have talons, and they have a reptilian head with a blunt snout from which they can unleash a breath weapon similar to that of a dragon.   They were originally created as a warrior breed by the Dragon Cult of Xivuran in Furan. Many of their attempts failed leading to deformed or unstable variants, but some were successful and resulted in the ancestors of the current Drakzkal. When the cult fell, this left many of them without a home. Many were even forced to flee their birth country to escape with their life. One particular expedition went south through the Lu'qua Tropics and sailed south towards Sabara, which explains why the largest population of Drakzkal is found there. They can be found all over however, either living in small communities of their own, or assimilated into other societies, where they often still perform their intended function as soldiers, guards or mercenaries.   As part of their nature as a warrior race, they were given two forms which they can switch between by performing a ritual. These rituals involve oratory, fire swallowing and various forms of dance. In Fireform their draconic features are amplified, such as larger fangs and claws and more powerful breath, which makes them more suitable for combat. It also amplifies their territorial, aggressive and prideful tendencies. Their other form, Ashform, is more humanoid in nature and it is a form of peace and procreation, which is why they sometimes call it Mateform.

Culture

Partially due to their history, and the fact that they are traditionally outsiders in most places, the Dragonborn tend to be solitary, self-reliant and highly individualistic. They do not hang their head in shame as outsiders however, instead they tend to be extremely proud and confident, especially when it comes to their martial prowess. This pride is generally built on a sense of honor and capability. This also extends into the arts, where they strive to be the best they can be, usually with a distinct individual flair.   As part of their form ritual, the Drakzkal have orally passed on other rituals and traditions throughout the ages. While these do not change their form, they are still similar in nature, involving fire dancing and occasionally chanting, to draw the attention of the Gods and beseech them for aid. Due to this, dance itself is considered near-sacred by them, and any self-respecting Drakzkal who partakes in these traditions will be an expert dancer.

Religion

Their individualistic and more free-fought nature is also reflected in their religious tendencies. They have no patron God, but they gravitate to those who promote freedom and individualism, such as Skarann, or those who promote their martial prowess such as warrior Gods like Argor and Cinarus. Beyond that, they sometimes worship the Gods or Goddesses who promote the arts and crafts they practice such as Aurora or Gormar for example.
