Electromantic Massage Parlors

When Electromancy was established in 89 AD, it was at that point mostly understood from a military application perspective. Rapid exploration of the new combined field of magic and science (before mysterious incidents stalled it out, at least) provided some basic understanding of effects on humanoid bodies. In combination with traditional massaging, techniques for pleasure and pain reduction were developed and began to see use across Gravefellow, though a couple parlors in the surrounding citadels have started using electromancy as well.
There are two types of electromantic massage parlors. The first have actual electromancers on staff (though often just a single one) that understand the principles of electromancy and know how to control it. Though they only have a shallow understanding of how nervous systems using electrical signals, they can pinpoint pain signals and counteracting them, providing temporary (or sometimes permanent) relief without solving the original cause of the pain. They also can manipulate mental states, inducing euphoria or mind blank states. Though there are few signs of physical addiction to this form of direct electrotherapy, those who have chronically abused electromantic massages have been observed to reach similar behaviors to dulleyes children.
There is an unspoken understanding that electromancy is not to be studied, enforced by the Starfallen. Due to the danger of practicing, those parlors that employ or are run by electromancers maintain a select list of clientele offered by invitation only. While some parlors act like a luxury, high cost experience, there are others (mainly only some of the ones in Gravefellow) that are available to a wider range of clientele, as long as they have been properly vetted, with a relatively low cost per visit. The rumors on the street maintain these clubs only exist so that the electromancers can secretly fund their continued research.
Many massage parlors have tried to capitalize on the new but limited-availability craze, despite having no capable electromancers on staff. Instead, they have taken to using electromantic devices to do what essentially amounts to shock therapy, with varying degrees of success commensurate with the quality of the device and the degree to which they understand the principles of electromancy (and typically even less than the limited understanding of the nervous system true electromancers possess). Regardless, these parlors are widely popular, especially among citadel guards nursing their injuries.

Partakers of electromantic massage parlors can enjoy a variety of results, depending on the skill of the electromancer. In combination with the relaxing and relieving qualities of a massage, basic services typically result in the numbing of pain, relaxation of the muscles, and stress relief. More powerful electromancers can go beyond and actually manipulate the patient's nerves directly, some even permanently resolving chronic pain or inducing mild hypnotic effects. At the best parlors, electromancers with a keen understanding of the brain can directly invoke strong, lasting emotions or other brain states in their patients. Due to the secretive nature of the high-end parlors, there is much rumor and gossip around how far these parlors will go, including fantastical ideas of memory manipulation and mind control. Whether these have a basis in truth or are just myth is impossible to know without getting deeply involved in the electromantic massage parlor culture.
