Bellona
Bellona is a Antibellum mansion located just outside Charlottesville, Virginia.
Purpose / Function
Originally built a few years before the American Civil War, Bellona was the home of a land baron with ties to the American aristocracy.
Alterations
The inside has been heavily renovated over the years and updated to include indoor plumbing, electricity, and central heating and air. Most of the alterations have been cosmetic and often take place when the house is on the market or going back on the market.
History
The house was built in 1860 just before the beginning of the American Civil War. It’s been the site of numerous deaths, mostly attributed to suicide or accident. It’s a beautiful Antebellum-style mansion, two stories tall with the iconic Virginia columns framing the front porch. The house features eight bedrooms, a library, a grand ballroom, three baths, a servants’ quarters and entrance to the kitchens and a disconnected carriage house. Because of its historic and architectural significance, the house has remained with a rotation of owners, many of whom are tied into the game in some way or another. Updates and remodeling has been continuous and the house is extremely marketable, occasionally drawing spontaneous offers (often shortly after the death of the previous owner).
