King Priam
King Priam of Ilion is viewed as a strong, capable ruler with a militaristic background. Though very stern, he sees the people of Ilion as an extension of his family, which he loves dearly. To Priam, being a ruler means taking the responsibility of protecting your people and striving toward the betterment of life under your rule. This is a mindset he has tried to instill in all of his many children.
Despite his love for his family and children, Priam also understands the impact reputation has on a person, particularly one in a position of power. As such, his family must represent strength and stability for the people of Ilion, and anything that would threaten that stability must be removed from the public eye. When his daughter, Medusa, was transformed into a gorgon, there was no time for investigation, and he helped her flee Ilion in the cover of night. In his mind, it was better she be forgotten and thought dead, than be a symbol of inherent weakness in the family line. Though he loves his daughter, he could not allow her to remain.
Similarly, when Kassandra began to alter in both body and mind, he had her shut away in a tower, out of sight from the rest of society. He brought in the greatest healers and minds he could find to help reverse the effects that were changing her, but he was ultimately informed that she was cursed by the power of a god. Kassandra proposed the solution: she would leave Ilion without her title or any ties to her family in search of a cure on her own. Nobody would know she was his daughter, so the curse would not be tied to the family line. In Priam's mind, this was the perfect solution, and he allowed Kassandra to set out on her quest. He has not heard from her since she left Ilion.
