Sea-Sage Effigy
The Sea-Sage Effigy is an ancient and unknown statuette of murky, green stone, possibly representing the Great Old One Cthulhu.
Appearance
The Effigy's faded colors are embedded into the stone and do not appear to be some form of paint. According to notes from the University of Lepidstadt, it was found one day near a deposit of meteoric iron. The base of the statue is covered in many marks. Some of them are in Osiriani, but others are completely untranslatable.Inscription
The Osiriani section reads:"Risen from the sea floor /To swamps putrid and rank, /Hail to the father who names us, /Ia' Ulat-kini, Ulat-kini. /Holy father, bless us anew! /Bring us back beyond the stars, /Bring back the darkness, /Bring back the fecund seas. /Lord of the Deeps hear us! /Grant us new young, /Grant us new blood, /Grant us dominion anew. /Hail, Hail Father Below! /Send us your angels, /Send us the flesh of men, /Send us the broodmothers."After considerable research, the University determined that the phrase "Ulat-kini" is a name used by the villainous Skum in reference to themselves.
The Whispering Way
Before he died, Count Caromarc told the Fellowship that the Whispering Way had used the Bondslave Thral to force the Beast of Lepidstadt to break into the antiquities department of the University of Lepidstadt to steal the Effigy. He said they needed it for an important ritual, though he didn't know the what or the why of it. The Effigy was last in the possession of Auren Vrood before he sent it away with the Dark Riders.Significance
Could possibly be needed for the ritual for The Carrion Crown.
