Dark Riders
The Dark Riders are a group of men riding piebald horses that acted on the behest of Auren Vrood, now the mysterious "A".
General
Something about the Riders makes it difficult if not impossible to get anything more than a general, passing description of them as being "noble". The Riders themselves seem to act as couriers and have taken various components of the Carrion Crown all across Ustalav and Versex on Vrood's orders.Kyrrn's Vision
Kyrrn saw in a vision of the items they were given:After another flash, Vrood’s hands place three strange items into a chest—an iron-and-glass vial containing a swirling gray mist (Warden Hawkran's Soul), a bloody heart inside a glass bottle (Packlord's Heart, and a fragile skull composed of hundreds of bone fragments (Skull of Splintered Graves). Into a second chest he places a strange statuette of murky green stone depicting a grotesque, tentacled creature (Sea-Sage Effigy). Into a third chest he places the warped chunk of burnt stone (Star Moit, Feldgrau). Another flash. The chests are given to three riders in dark cloaks on piebald horses. “Ride to Carrion Hill,” you hear Vrood’s voice speak. “Our agent will exchange the Star Moit for the Pnakotic Manuscript, the relic we need.”
On the Trail
The Fellowship of the Sun has been in pursuit of the Riders every since Feldgrau. Just missing them in Carrion Hill by days, the group learned that the Riders were making their way towards Thrushmoor. While in Hyannis, the group found that they were looking for a traveling merchant named Gaster Lucas. He himself was searching for religious artifact called the Raven's Head, which had been used against the Whispering Tyrant during the first crusade. Upon arriving in Rozenport, the Dark Riders immediately passed through town and left, presumably going straight in the direction of Thrushmoor. In Thrushmoor, the Riders acquired new horses. The horses they took are part of a group that bear a certain brand, the Winged Duloop, which resembles a figure 8. In Illmarsh the Fellowship learned that the riders had passed through the town several days before they arrived. However, after exploring the abandoned Unidomede Manor just outside the town, they discovered the horse of one of the riders that had remained behind near the brink of starvation. This rider was found to have been carrying the Sea-Sage Effigy and a second Star Moit, from which a Colour Out of Space escaped.
