Equatorial Deserts of Mars
The Equatorial Deserts of Mars, which include the vast, windswept plains of the Medusae Fossae Formation, are characterized by their extreme temperatures, minimal precipitation, and sparse vegetation. These regions, however, are home to a variety of highly specialized plant and animal species, including the Sand Cactus, a tall, spiny succulent that has evolved to store water in its thick, fleshy stems, and the Martian Kangaroo Rat, a small, nocturnal rodent that has adapted to survive on minimal amounts of water and food.
