35th Session
General Summary
The guards and the other Old Ones come back. Galla is exhausted from all the magic she has used today. The Princess has another fit of hysteria. Colonel Goldblade and Mattis take her and Selima further into the cave and have Ronen block the sound. Ellie checks on Galla and then makes tea for the Colonel and Mattis. She manages to convince the Colonel to talk to her about what's he's thinking, but he won't do it there as "She" might hear.
Ellie talks to now awake Galla who gives some insights into the Colonel and Princess's history. She believes that Goldblade is in love with Eirianwen and he left the "Order" so he could court her better. She also mentions Colonel Goldblade's father may have jumped to his death rather than being shoved off the mountain. Galla laments that she once had a "Great Love," with whom she expected to spend all of eternity. He was member of the order. She loved her Marco and loves her children and grandchildren, but it's different. She thought she had made peace with it, but the Princess's presence and pain reminder her of what her love might have gone through. When Ellie remarks that grief must be one reason why they don't share agelessness, Galla gives her the Old One's story of Creation, which Ellie largely ignores for now as it is not in line with her faith.
The party spends the night in the cave. The others collapse the tunnels and take care of the prisoners. The freed children stay in the cave and go on the ship with the group to Elkhorn Court. Mattis Roco is going to send them to Northerburg to work with his students.
At the manor house, the party gets paid 325 gp each and the Colonel tells them they can go. Theo and Ellie commission Gall to make a human saddle for a halfling so Ellie can ride Theo into battle. Theo pays extra to get padding on the straps and Ellie pays extra to have it lined with silk and embroidered. The party goes to town where Ellie get 20 gp worth of pasta and Caspian sends money home to his mother. Ellie talks with Mattis to ensure the children will be taken care of and she talks to Nova a bit.
Enlisting the aid of Enzo and Ronen, Ellie fills every water fixture in the house with cooked pasta except for those in the two master suites. She was rewarded the next morning when the Colonel gave a slight flinch after he saw the outside pool filled with pasta.
Ellie later talks to the Colonel in private. He does speak freely as he promised he would talk to her. He will not go talk to the Princess since she is upset with him. He admits that he loves Eirianwen, but there's a lot of things keeping him from pursuing her. The issues he names are that she surely thinks of him as a brother and he's not nearly as talented as her and her siblings and so he's unworthy, she's being very docile and he's worried she would go along with any romantic advances simply to please him as she is now very eager to comply with him. He is also very concerned about hurting her or causing her any aguish. Ellie levels with him, saying that he has one major advantage over Eirianwen's brothers, he's not one and Eirianwen's behavior while they were planning the date is inconsistent with thinking of him as a brother.
During the talk, Goldblade has been fidgeting with the thing in his pocket at an increasing rate. At a point, he takes it out and holds it under his chin. Eventually, he reveals it as an engagement ring, explaining that he had it commissioned centuries ago. He had a plan that when the Time Clan visited the City, he was going to finally court her, make her love him and ask her to marry him. That was the time they saw the city had been destroyed. He couldn't bear to throw the ring away, so it stays in his pocket as a reminder of a future that never was, just like Elkhorn court. He admits he fiddles with it when he's anxious or thinking of her and he's thought of her often enough in these past centuries to wear out the pocket of every uniform. Ellie, about to keel over from how tragically romantic the story is, demands he confess his love, which he refuses. She offers to ask Her Highness how she feels about him, which he agrees to.
Ellie grabs Tasha on her way to see the Princess and gives her the run down. They go into the Princess and ask her directly how she feels about the Colonel. She slightly taken aback, but she admits she loves him and is a fool for it. Ellie uses sending to tell the Colonel "She loves you, you beautiful, foolish man." They stay there talking to the princess until the Colonel comes then they leave the lovers alone.
Ellie and Tasha get Caspian to get more flowers for Goldblade and wait for the legend to come out from talking to his beloved. He does come out, smile on his face and thanks them. He pulls out the ring and says that he'll give it to after he speaks with her father.
The party leaves to return to Horace. They travel about 3 days over land and then pay 3 gp for a 6 hour boat ride. On the road, they meet and kill some goblins.
TLDR: Ellie meddles so the Colonel and the princess are now an item. The party finlly leaves Elkhorn Court and fights goblins.
