Siege of the Free Gnomish City
The Conflict
Prelude
The Free City had been selling weapons and arms to the Kingdom of Grandos when the Federal Military got close to the city. In response, the Federal Republic laid siege and blockaded the city.
Outcome
With major Federal casualties, the siege was forced to be abandoned and the Free City reminded independent.
Aftermath
To save face the Federal Republic refused to sign a peace deal with the Free City due to not wanting to have 'lost' a war. Since then a cold war has kept going between the two though trade has resumed diplomatic hostilities remain.
Historical Significance
In Literature
Records in the Federal Republic say that the siege was abandoned so the Federal Military could focus on the Siege of the Rose Citidel. Few official records still exist regarding the number of troops lost or the length of siege.
Technological Advancement
During the lead up to the war, the Free City contracted hundreds of trade ships to be made. These ships had a slight modification, however. On both sides of the ship, there were small wooden hatches that could be raised to allow people to see out. This allowed clerics, sorcerers, and other mages to cast spells at other ships without opening themselves up to attack.
