The Eastern Reconquest
General
Starting in 950 CE the Federal Republic started to invade the Gnome and Orc cities to the east of the Captial Region. The conquests would go quickly until the army got to the Bridged Peaks, the Rose Citadel (modern-day Mayim's Gate), and the Free Gnomish City. These three areas took the Federal Army a long time to take if they were able to. The siege of the Rose Citadel took 10 years. It was not until the Federal Army was able to take the Bridged Peaks and fully siege the Rose Citadel from both sides that they were able to breach the walls. The Free Gnmoish City was never taken, after 16 years of a siege, the city showed no signs of wavering so upon the fall of the Rose Citadel the Federal Republic called it a victory and left the Free City.The Conflict
Prelude
The Federal Republic had been building up the federal military force in secret. On the 7th of Armies March in 950 CE the armies begin marching unannounced towards Mayim's Gate and the Free City. While the official reasoning given by the Federal Republic was that the Orcish cities were sending mercenaries into Federal land to loot and pillage - just like they do in the Southern Kingdoms - there has never been any evidence found of this.
Deployment
The Federal Army was split into two forces the Royal Army took the Glimmering Road towards the Free City and surrounding areas, while the Federal Army took the northern parts of Granados. The Federal Navy was sent to blockade the Free City but was repelled so the fleet spent the rest of the war protecting Dragon's Bay and the Federal ports.
Outcome
Due to the methods of the Federal Military during the war almost all land between the Captial Region and Mayim's Gate had been abandoned. The Orcs, Gnomes, Dwarves, and other races that lived there had abandoned their homes. The Merfolk were the only exception having signed a Non-Aggression and Mutual Citizenship pack with the Republic.
Aftermath
After rebuilding and reinhabiting the provinces they have stayed under Federal Controle. For a while, this leads to a tense peace between the Duke's Dust and the Federal Republic that still lasts to this day.
While the reconquest ended the war with the Gnomish City has kept going. No peace treaty has ever been signed. The two sides have simply stopped fighting.
