The Rolling Basin
The Rolling Basin is a vast and fertile expanse located at the heart of the Brindlelands, characterized by its gently undulating terrain, fertile soil, and lush greenery. Stretching as far as the eye can see, this region is often referred to as the agricultural core of the Brindlelands. Its boundaries are defined by natural features such as rolling hills, serene rivers, and expansive fields that sway with the breeze.
The Basin holds the capital of the New Bond, Deeplocke, and acts as a seat of their power. As such, Bond patrols can be seen riding the roads, as well as citizens taking their goods to and from the capital.
Geography
As the name suggests, the region is characterized by rolling hills and gentle slopes. These hills provide natural irrigation as rainwater flows into the low-lying areas, making it an ideal location for farming. While agriculture dominates the landscape, there are also pockets of dense forests and woodlands. These areas serve as sources of timber, game, and various natural resources. The region is surrounded by cliffs and mountains to the north, west, and east, while the Amber Bay and Many Mires lay to the south.
History
Millennia ago, giants known as the "Mountainfolk" roamed the northern territories of the Brindlelands, including parts of the Rolling Basin. These giants left a lasting impact on the landscape through their colossal rune carvings and massive footprints, some of which have now turned into lakes. As the Brindlelands became more settled, various clans and communities in the region started to form alliances. The people of the Rolling Basin, in particular, began to cultivate a distinct culture centered around agriculture. Festivals and traditions related to planting, harvesting, and crop blessings became an integral part of life in this region.
One group in particular, the Belkronia Family, ammassed power and favor in an underhanded way: poisoning and souring the crops of their competers. By doing this, they forced other groups to turn to them for aid. Slowly adopting these families under their sphere of influence, the Belkronians eventually grew into the most popular and powerful family in the region. They still operate,now as a noble house under the New Bond.
The Rolling Basin, and Deeplocke in particular, remains a vital agricultural center. It supplies food to the entire New Bond and plays an essential role in sustaining the region's population. Once the city of Deeplocke was constructed by the Belkronians, its importance skyrocketed. The villages and towns in the basin have adapted to modern life, with some of them serving as market hubs for the distribution of agricultural products. Overall, the Rolling Basin and its settlements have become vital suppliers for the entirety of the New Bond.
