Oarus Masthew is a good hearted Giak who serves as the current speaker for Termalaine in Kalte .
While he is a Giak , he was raised by human parents. His father, Shaelen Masthew found him as a young child serving as a slave on a Darklord vessel. Rather than turn the child loose, Shaelen took Oarus in and they moved to Kalte . They spent years living in Ljuk before becoming one of the founding families of Termalaine .
Oarus is bright, with a good sense of humor but not as much of the political acumen he will need to weather the year ahead. There is an election for Speaker to be held at the end of January, 5097 and there is political opposition arraying against him. For some reason he does not understand, he has begun having difficulties commanding the guard, and he suspects there is a larger influence at work to see him replaced. Matthew Warring has assured him that there is nothing of import going on, and that the guard simply disagrees with a number of decisions of late.
