The Imperial Crypt
Purpose / Function
The Imperial Crypt wasn't merely a place to stow away the dead, it was the place where the personal journals, and biographies of the Driasts would be stored, around a shrine which the reigning Driast could meditate at for council. Common citizens would also enter the crypts in order to pay respects to their leaders of ages past.
History
The Imperial Crypt was the burial site of many Driasts while it remained open, eventually however a priest noticed a disturbing magic had taken root within and cautioned against entering, this was initially disregarded as people went in with the intents of paying respects, only to be treated as intruders by The Crypt Guardian and were quickly eviscerated. The reigning Driast declared that to honour the memories of those lost within, the crypt would no longer be used, and that when his time came he would be cremated, his ashes to be spread around the nation. His ashes would later be mixed with a sacred clay and then used to anoint the head of his young grandson, forming a tradition which has persisted to modern times.
