Kahaligite (Ka-ha-lee-Gite)

When a baby is born in an area of intense negative energy, when a Human breeds with an undead creature, or perhaps when one's bloodline is tainted by intense evil, a kahaligite can be born. Scions of undead power, a kahaligite is able to channel the powers of various undead creatures for a limited time. They often utilize these powers over the undead to either command the undead to do their bidding, or reject their inner nature and use their powers to hunt down and destroy the undead. Kahaligites are only common to Skovasil, the realm of Shadow and Undeath.

Basic Information

Biological Traits

Kahaligites usually sport some sort of defining characteristic, generally in the form of elongated teeth or sharp, bone-like fingernails. The circumstances of the kahaligites birth is often the defining factor upon what traits they might manifest.

Genetics and Reproduction

Most Kahaligites are sterile, the negative energy they are attuned to destroys their ability to create life. As a result, most kahaligites are born to a human mother. Such births are taxing on the mother, and have an incredibly high mortality rate. It is believed that a kahaligite siphons the life energy of its mother while still in the womb, as some sort of undead parasite. This leaves many to abandon, shun, or kill a newborn kahaligite outright.

Growth Rate & Stages

Most Kahaligites reach adulthood at 20 years of age.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While not necessary to their survival, a kahaligite has a constant, quite hunger for the flesh and blood of others, and must constantly struggle to keep their urges in check.

Biological Cycle

Kahaligites seem to be slightly affected by lunar cycles, as they seem to get an influx of energy during nights of the new moon. During rare celestial events, such as a blood moon, most kahaligites find themselves lost to an intense and sudden bloodlust.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

A kahaligites strongest attribute are there personalities, but they most are capable of increasing their natural cunning at the cost of their common sense.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Kahaligites have Darkvision, generally to a range of sixty feet.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Lacking a true culture of their own, kahaligites are mostly named based on their region and birth mother. Those that grow up abandoned often name themselves, and may even switch names over time as their preferences grow. Many often adopt over-the-top names and titles based on the undead, such as Death Baron, Fleshripper, or Bloodlord.

Major Organizations

Being undead worshiping kingdoms, the four Necromantic Baronies of Skovasil have a plethora of kahaligites living among them, and kahaligtites will often rise to positions of power in the baronies.

Beauty Ideals

Many kahaligites suffer from a warped sense of beauty, seeing it in things such as bones, rot and decay. They will often try to bring forth the "inner beauty" of others by rending their flesh, exposing their bones, or attempting to turn their "partners" into undead creatures.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Most Kahaligites speak Skov Common fluently, and all of them have an innate understanding of the whispering language of the undead, Necril. Just as humans, kahaligites can easily pick up and adapt to numorous languages.

Common Dress Code

Kahaligites that grow up on the road and in undead-fearing lands will often work hard to conceal their undead nature, lest they be persecuted for it. They will often wear long gloves, heavy robes, and dark glasses to conceal their more notable appearances. Kahaligites the grow up in areas the allow for them to remain in the open often wear stylish clothing with dark aesthetics, such as having the bones of those unfortunate to cross them sewn into their clothing. Those who closely venerate Grimm will often wear garish, carnival style clothing, complete with over the top hats and skull-like makeup.

Culture and Cultural Heritage

Many kahaligites are born on the road or abandoned, and lack much of a defining culture. The fear and hate they receive often leads them to embrace the darker side of their heritage and descend into debauchery. Those that grow up in lands that worship the undead are lofted up, and they will often make use of this attention, becoming dark overlords who relish in their power.

Common Customs, Traditions and Rituals

For the kahaligites that are raised in the lands of the undead, ritual sacrifice is commonplace to them. They will often partake in such sacrifice of "lesser mortals", often bathing in their blood afterwards. Kahaligites have a penchant for games, whether they be simple festival traditions or twisted carnival death shows, and will often throw elaborate parties or host especial events just as an excuse to indulge themselves. Wandering or on the run kahaligites have a hard time resisting the impulse to attend a small festival, even when it would be in their best interest to move on.

Common Taboos

For most kahaligites, turning against their nature and becoming a slayer of the undead is a great betrayal, as even those that do are often feared and shunned by the very people they protect.

Historical Figures

One of the members of the villainous Darkmoon Alliance, whose actions brought about the Sundering, was a kahaligite summoner named Zathrine.   One of the members of the Nenu-Lan guild, The Court of Misfits, was a kahaliigte necromancer named Brulun Mev.

Common Myths and Legends

Most kahaligites turn to worship the progenitor of the undead, Grimm, and seek to one day join his eternal carnival.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Kahaligites have few positive relations with other races that realize the kahaligites true nature. They are often feared and hated by normal humanoids, which in turn often leads them to embrace their dark heritage.

Kahaligite

Type Humanoid (Half-Undead, Human)
Ability Score Modifier +2 Charisma. Kahaligites have intense personalities.
Size medium
Speed Unless they are focusing their ghost or zombie aspect, a Kahaligite has a base speed of 30ft.
Language A Kahaligite begins play speaking Common (Skov), Necril. Kahaligites with a high intelligence score can choose from any non secret language.

  • Materil: Kahaligites are inherently tied to the Shadow Materil, and must become Shadowbringers.
  • Darkvision: Kahaligites can see perfectly in the dark up to 60 feet.
  • Aversion: Due to their unnatural nature, kahaligites take a -4 penalty on all Charisma based skill checks when dealing with non-undead creatures, with the exception of Intimidate. They receive a +4 on all skill checks to deal with undead creatures. Certain NPCs that are used to death or that are familiar with the kahaligite might avert this penalty. A mindless undead will view a kahaligite as another undead and will usually not attack one unless provoked.
  • Half-Undead: Kahaligites gain a +2 racial bonus against disease and mind effects, take no penalties from energy draining effects, although they can still be killed if they accrue more negative levels then they have Hit Dice. After 24 hours, any negative levels they have are removed without any additional saving throws. Kahaligites are healed by negative energy and harmed by positive energy.
  • Natural Attacks: A kahalagite has a bite attack that deals 1d4 points of piercing damage, a single claw attack that deals 1d4 points of slashing damage, and a slam attack that deals 1d6 points of bludgeoning damage. Only one attack each turn is a primary natural attack, the rest become secondary attacks and take a -5 penalty on attack rolls. When channeling an undead aspect, a kahaligite cannot utilize natural attacks not related to that aspect.
  • Undead Aspects (Su): A kahaligite can channel the power of the undeath in its blood, and selects an undead aspect at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th racial level. As a move action, a kahaligite can focus any aspect of undeath it knows. Each aspect grants a bonus and a penalty to the kahalligtes ability scores, as well as additional abilities. A kahaligite can only focus one aspect at a time, and can only focus aspects for a total number of rounds each day equal to 3 + ½ its hit dice + its Charisma modifier. A kahaligite can select the same aspect multiple times. Each time they do, they increase the damage dice of that aspects associated natural attack by one step. If the ghost aspect is selected multiple times, it increases its deflection bonus by +1 and its fly speed by 10 feet instead.
  • Ghost Aspect: The kahaligite becomes incorporeal, gaining a +2 racial bonus to its Dexterity score and a -2 penalty to its Constitution score. Any natural armor bonus the kahaligite possesses becomes a deflection bonus. It replaces its normal movement speed with a fly speed (perfect maneuverability) of the same distance, with the exception that it can only hover up to 10 feet off the ground. A kahaligites’s held items become incorporeal as well, but such items can no longer affect corporeal creatures unless they are ghost touch or similar magic. A kahaligite is staggered while it channels its ghost aspect.
Skeleton Aspect: The kahaligite’s skin draws back into its bones, granting it a +2 racial bonus to its Dexterity score, but a -2 penalty to its Strength score. The kahaligite gains DR 5/bludgeoning and gains an additional claw attack.
Vampire Aspect: The kahaligite gains elongated fangs and increased cunning, gaining a +2 racial bonus to its Intelligence score and a -2 penalty to its Wisdom score. It gains DR 5/magic and silver, and its bite attack now deals 1d2 points of bleed damage. If a kahaligite that is focusing this aspect is exposed to direct sunlight, the daylight spell, or similar magics, it immediately ceases to focus this aspect, takes 1d4 points of damage, and is slowed for two rounds.
Zombie Aspect: The kahaligites flesh stiffens, granting it a +2 racial bonus to its Strength score and a -2 penalty to its Dexterity score. The kahaligite gains DR 5/slashing and its slam attack now deals 1d8 points of damage. Each of the kahaligites movement speeds are reduced by 5 feet while focusing this aspect.
  • Natural Armor: Starting at 2nd racial level a kahaligites rough skin and hard bones grants it a +1 natural armor bonus to its AC. This bonus increases by 1 at 5th racial level.
  • Channel Resistance: Starting at 3rd racial level, Kahaligites gain Channel Resistance equal to their Charisma modifiers plus ½ their total hit dice.
  • Aspect Mastery: At 5th racial level, the kahaligites gains Multiattack as a bonus feat, and can now utilize all of its natural attacks no matter what undead aspect it channels.

Alternate Racial Traits
  • Focused Attacks: Some kahaligites focus more on one natural attack than the rest. They choose one natural attack at character creation. That natural attack deals damage as if it were one size category larger, but all of its other natural attacks deal damage as if they were once size category smaller. This trait alters a kahaligites Natural Attacks.
  • Human-Like: Some kahaligites can more easily pass as humans. They lose the aversion trait, but it now takes them a standard action to focus an Undead Aspect. This trait replaces Aversion and modifies a kahaligites Undead Aspect trait.
  • Human Heritage: Some kahaligites are much more diverse like their human ancestors. A kahaligite with this trait gains a +2 to any one ability score. This trait alters the Kahaligite starting ability scores.
