Neminwyn is the
elven god of the ocean. He is married to
Semeleth, and is possibly the lover of
Uén.
Domain
Neminwyn is believed to hold dominion over the waves and the ocean bed, over all life in the seas, and (through many minor gods, his vassals) of the flow of water into the ocean from inland. The sternest and least forgiving of the elven pantheon, he demands the most respect from mortals, but gives magnanimously in exchange. Patron of sailors, the sea elves of
Melrune proudly call themselves his bastard children. His power is limited in some ways, however, as according to legend, he can only call up a storm with the aid of his wife, Semeleth, who can choose not to send the clouds to aid him. Those who believe that the elven pantheon made the first elves say that Neminwyn provided the water Uén used to shape them from clay.
Symbolism
Neminwyn is typically depicted as an elven man with a powerful build, bare-chested and short-haired, beardless, wearing a cloak of whorls, waves, and reefs. He often has an oar held in his hands, though it is sometimes replaced with a spear. The color used for his cloak is blue, sometimes blue-green. His hair can be shown in many different colors, including blue, brown, black, and gray.
Places of Worship
Neminwyn is worshipped most fervently by the sea elves of Melrune, but is worshipped in some manner by nearly all aboveground elven societies, including
Regnum Solas,
Ola Thamar, and
Tethia.
History
Neminwyn's history is primarily unknown, although the first accounts of his influence upon Materia date back to the
War of the Gods.
