Semeleth

The Starry-Eyed Semeleth

Semeleth is the elven goddess of the moon, stars, and travelers. She is married to the elven god of the ocean, Neminwyn.

Domain

Semeleth is known as a sky god who governs the heavens, moves clouds, and brings the rain. Most prominent at night, in metaphor, the moon is referred to as her ‘face,’ although the sun elves of Regnum Solas hold that she is active during the day through her brightest star, the sun itself. A goddess of travelers, her stars allow mortals to navigate at night, and the phases of the moon have allowed elves to keep track of the passage of time for many centuries.   Those who hold that the elven gods created the race of elves say that she cast the light of the sun down upon the first elves, baking their clay forms until they were strong enough to accept the gift of life. It is said that rain is a gift from Semeleth given to Uén to help the plants grow, or sometimes to her husband Neminwyn, to bolster his already vast power over the seas.

Symbolism

Semeleth is usually depicted as a slender elven woman clad in a long dress, deep blue, purple, or black, rarely with sleeves. Her hair is always dark and long, past her waist, and her eyes are pitch black, with no irises and many stars gleaming inside of them. She is usually seen open-handed, holding nothing. Symbols most commonly associated with her include a moon face.

Places of Worship

Semeleth is worshipped in some manner by nearly all aboveground elven societies, most fervently by Regnum Solas, but also by Ola Thamar, Tethia, and Melrune.

History

Semeleth's history is primarily unknown, although the first accounts of her influence upon Materia date back to the War of the Gods.
