Tieflings are a rare species of humanoid "half-devils" created via means of an
Infernal transformation via contract, by crossbreeding between a humanoid and a fiend, or by crossbreeding between humanoids and tieflings. Despite their colloquial names, tieflings can have both
Abyssal or infernal genetic origins; demonic tieflings are less likely to have horns.
Characteristics
Tieflings appear humanoid in height, with their fiendish heritage leaving a clear imprint on their appearance. Infernal tieflings have horns that take any of a variety of shapes: some have curling horns like a ram, others have straight and tall horns like a gazelle’s, and some spiral upward like an antelopes’ horns. They have tails, often four to five feet long, which lash or coil around their legs when they get upset or nervous. Their canine teeth are sharply pointed, and their eyes are often solid colors with no visible sclera or pupil. Their skin tones cover the full range of human coloration, but also include various shades of red and blue.
Stigma
Due to tieflings close association with Devils and the
Nine Hells and the
Abyss, they are often shunned and excluded from humanoid society due to the belief that they are inherently evil. However, unless bound under contract, there is no aspect of the tiefling species that compels them to act by a particular set of moral guidelines.
