Devil

Devils are a species of shapeshifting fiends native to the Nine Hells. Past the first level of the Infernal Hierarchy, most devils are completely unique, having previously lived as mortal humanoids before becoming a devil in the afterlife.

Personality

Devils are highly unique, but due to the nature of the Nine Hells, they are often ambitious, and strictly hierarchical and law-abiding to the point of fault, with most of the relationships between the Devils of the Nine Hells being specified by contract. Devils additionally often wield powerful magic abilities, closely correlated with the number of souls in their possession and sponsorship from higher-ranking devils. Some form of shapeshifting is one power known to most Devils. They are also known to generally despise the chaotic nature of Demons.

Society

Devils generally value the ownership of souls, as it serves as a currency in the Nine hells and as a source of magical power. However, they do understand the value of traditional mortal wealth and often use it to lure mortals into selling their soul via a contract.

Becoming a Devil

Entrance to the the Infernal Hierarchy is most typically gained by living by a set of lawful evil morals in life. Humans whose souls were claimed in contract do not become Devils - they are technically Apostles, although they usually gain many infernal abilities upon death regardless.
