Coastal Mer
"So I never got the whole 'impersonator' thing. Have you seen them? It's pretty obvious that they ain't human." Adam said as he kicked his legs.
"How." Alete asked flatly, not even looking over at him.
"They don't act human. I mean, not like a human that's really good at acting like one."
"Are you holding yourself as that example."
"What? Fuck no, I'm pretty bad at being human. It's just-- it's obvious, the ones that are living with humans as humans, they act just a bit off." He glanced over to Richard, the actual mer in the room who was intent on the ocean below the window. "No offence, Rich."
"Not paying attention. Know it's obvious."
"Richard. Full sentences." Alete told him. He nodded absently.
"So he agrees with me--"
"Do most of the time." The mer said quietly.
"Thanks." Adam rolled his eyes and grinned. "So why do so many of you live on land?"
"It. Is?" Richard looked back with the blankly confused expression he often wore. "Lots of us had to leave. More ships. More hunters. And less coast, with the-- word. Wood worlds for humans."
"Towns." Alete said immediately.
"Towns. More towns, less coast. So. We didn't leave the coast. We just. Lived in it different." He shrugged. "And hunters never kill all of family groups. So ocean is full of lost and scattered. Made sense to make a new family group where hunters do not reach."
