Treria

The Thalassocracy of Treria, located in the the northwest of Människar, in the Spear Peninsula. Given how dangerous and harsh the North is, the little which the people of this kingdom are capable of taking from the earth, they make up in what they take from the sea, fishing around their lands or pillaging the trade routes of the southern kingdoms.

Culture

The Jorvsk are a group of brave, traditional and warrior people, being distant descendants of the Old Engelians. These values are mostly a consequence of the harsh environment they live in, where snow covers the soil during almost the entire year and foul creatures lurk in the woods and bogs everywhere. In this sense, most of the population are taught how to defend themselves since childhood and learn not only to respect their limits, but to respect the land they live in.  Those who seek to dedicate their lives defending their land are often put into a path of arduous training. When they reach adulthood, at the age of 16, either males and females are expected to perform a series of trials and challenges in order to prove their worthiness. These rituals often involve life-threatening tasks, so that only the strongest and most deserving can succeed at, while those that fail are not mourned upon, for their failure is proof of their unworthiness.   Although it is expected that women should do house labor, this is not enforced and the females that seek to become shield maidens are often treated with great respect.

Religion

The Trerians venerate the Old Gods, often performing sacrifices and rituals in their honour, while also making several feasts and ceremonies along the year, in a way of not just thanking the deities for their benevolence, but also to express their fear and respect towards the gods.

Ethics

Although the Jorvsk treat their elders and shield brothers with high respect, honor is a very relative concept for them, as they have little regard whether they're facing weaker or stronger foe, in a manner that a warrior will not begrudge the killing of a sick, old or foe from the opposite sex if they deem the latter unworthy or guilty. A Trerian raider would gladly give up on his life to save his shield-brother, but he won't lift a finger to help a woman accused of witchcraft. Moreover, Trerians have lots of faith regarding destiny, in which only the bravest and most deserving are deemed worthy of living, and so, death is often associated with failure. The exception for this is when it happens during combat, in which case they believe the deceased ascends high into the sky while having a shield made out of pure frystine in their backs, reflecting the light back towards Mellanvärlden as they guard the cosmos against evil. And so, to look up at the stars is to look up at the heroes of old.
