Church of the Jade Dragon

The Cathanese religion is primarily centered around worship and appeasement of the Jade Dragon, where the citizens of Cathay do yearly festivals and monthly sacrifices to make sure the Jade Dragon stays belligerent to them. The normal pantheon of the world is also included in their religion, however, the gods of the Mellinorian Pantheon are simply creations of the Jade Dragon, and thus are inferior to it.   The main temple to the Jade Dragon is located to the eastern part of Cathay, in the Temple of the Jade Dragon. It is a series of floating islands, which are being held afloat by the magic of the Jade Dragon himself, and thus a hallowed place of worship. Only people who are deemed worthy by the high monk are allowed in.   Other than that, places of worship are spread althrought cities and villages of Cathay, the most important ones being in Zjincheng and Miao Cheng, having the greatest temples in the empires other than the Temple of the Jade Dragon itself.

Mythology & Lore

According to the Cathanese version of the Mellinorian pantheon, after the discordance of Melkor in the song of creation, Eru Illuvatar decided to take a mostly non-interventionist approach to the rest of creation and became the Jade Dragon himself, guiding Cathay and its people as the chosen ones.
The Jade Dragon makes yearly visits to the Temple of the Jade Dragon during the Grand festival which takes place at the start of spring, and, if he finds them worthy, gives great blessings or gifts to people who wish it, but if he does not, purifies them with his unstoppable fire.

In the hierarchy of gods/dragons in the Cathanese Pantheon, the Jade Dragon remains on top, and afterwards the normal hierarchy of the gods continue, with the exception of Aule, who is worshipped on the same level as the biggest gods of the pantheon, owing to close cultural relations of the Cathanese with the Dwarves.
