Civilization and Culture
History
When the Formless first came to the world, it gave the gift of beastly shapechanging to the first druids of the Material Plane. Some druids used this power for good, spreading across the Endless Lands and blessing others with their newfound gift. Others let their gift control them, becoming corrupted by it and becoming the first lycanthropes. Those lycanthropes wandered the Lands, spreading their curse to the many races of the realm, through both biting and breeding. Eventually, the curse became diluted through generations of interbreeding, and from there the first Shifters were born. In many settlements, they were persecuted as if full lycanthropes, so some learned to hide and control their lessened curse. Others fled to the wilds, letting their curse roam wild and free within their blood.
