Niarem Railway Metro
General
The Niarem Railway Metro — known as the NRM — is one of the most extensive railway networks in all of Vael'Eteria. It allows one to reach most regions within Varldstan Niarem within a single day, instead of weeks or months.
Similar to its city it sprawls across like a spider's net, it is belived to have been created by Architect in its entierty, though it is uncertain how much, if anything, regarding it has changed since Niarem first matured as a Varldstan Realm.
Transitional
environmental effect
Every time a train enters a chernobic or halcyonic region, its appearance changes to better mimic its surrounding environment. This change manifest with a sudden gust of cold air that is tailed by a white mist that goes through all wagons. Thus trains that enter a chernobic region will become worn-down and covered in old posters, graffiti, as well as in vegetation, primarily vines, and moss. If a train enters a halcyonic region, it will become pristine, clean, and shiny, as if it receives thorough maintenance twice a month.
Toga Tóg
The NRM is not operated by personnel but is instead fully automated and overseen by a sapient, electrophysical entity known as Toga Tóg. In layman terms, she would be seen as an advanced artifical intelligence. Some, however, wonder if she is not a lesser Oralthion who personifies the NRM. Toga Tóg always evades questions about herself, however, and will eventually ignore the curious passenger completly.
She only sparing interacts vocally with passangers, and is satisfied with only giving forewarning of destinations, possible delays or simply stating the hour of the day. Her voice is most often sweet and reassuring, but can also sound bored or irritated.
Some belive she is the intelligence behind the existence of the NTC:s, as well as the one who subtly controls them, though Toga Tóg never activly confirm nor denies these claims. In fact, she seems ignorant of their existence when asked about them, stating that she is the only one who operates the NRM.
Notable passangers
The girl on the train
A girl can often be seen sitting in one of the wagons of one of the trains. She never talk and barely acknowledge any other passengers. Sometimes, however, the girl will awake a passenger who has fallen asleep, just in time for them to reach their destination.
She will either be reading a book or solemnly looking out of her window. She is always dressed in a white buttoned blouse and black skirt. She has raven black hair and dark red eyes that shift into pale pink in certain light conditions.
Train tickets
One does not need to buy a train ticket before boarding a train; they are free to use at one's own leisure. This is primarily due to the fact that every ticket vending machine across all of Niarem appears to be out of stock. Despite this, one can still find one on occasion, either at a train station or on the floor of an already departed train. These tickets will showcase a passenger number, along with the time and date of a train that is either arriving at the station or is currently being used. Most metro passengers consider these tickets to be temporary lucky charms that are to be held onto for the whole trip. Afterward, they are to be either destroyed or thrown in a garbage can.
A few rare of these tickets showcase an older date of an already departed train. They are said to be bringers of misfortune, especially if one is brought onto a departing train. This misfortune may range from simply missing one's destination, to ending up at the terminus station, or becoming an NTC.
Trains
The trains that are used come in a variety of designs. Most have a slim, streamlined design, while some others appear bulkier. Their color palette is quite varied as well and usually comes in an exterior silver-white shade and an interior silver-blue shade. They are all powered by electricity, though the origin of it is debated. Most seem to have mechanical power-generators installed though.
Top speeds & Decceleration
The trains are capable of reaching top speeds of up to roughly 480 kilometers per hour, though they rarely have the necessity of reaching those speeds.
They are also capable of deccelerating unnaturally sudden and safely. At top speed, they may come to a complete stop within 15 seconds and a length of roughly 205 meters. Under more mild circumstances, however, this may be done in under 10 seconds and a length of about 70 meters.
Each time a decceleration occurs, the trains will be momentarily obscured by a large amount of cold mist, and their metallic surface will be covered in a thin layer of glistening frost. The act of decceleration is only faintly noticeable for its passengers, although those unused to the sight may recive a faint headache when the formerly blurry outside view suddenly becomes clear and still.
Irregular Teleportation
The trains also have an irregular tendency to Teleport across either short or long lengths of railway. These events are all affected by the Blind Spot Effect, although passangers will experience them similarly as if they entered and exited a short dark tunnel.
It is unclear what exactly activates these Teleportations or how they are preformed. No one knows what would happen if one exited a train during one either, and no one is prone to find out.
Train wagons
Each train consists of twenty-two wagons, each of which is roughly twenty-four meters in length. A majority of them have a quite spacious interior, with an aisle wide enough for two people to walk beside each other. They are all furnished with benches, seats and tables, along with the occasional vending-machine. A few, however, are notably more cramped and are only broad enough for one person to walk the aisle.
Restricted wagons
The first and last wagon of the train are restricted and are locked with a keycode and a facial recognition software. Active Niarem train conductors are the only ones with authorization to access them, though they rarely do so. Attempts to access these wagons have a high risk of ending with one laying on the train floor, bloodied and with bones broken.
