Sleipnir
The high walls surrounding Asgard were actually constructed by a giant. Loki convinced Wotan to make a bet with a giant where if he could build the wall in less than a year he could take Frigg as his wife, but if he couldn't he would instead have to finish the wall for free. With that the giant took his trusted steed with him to build the wall and together they nearly finished it within the year. Wotan angry with Loki demanded he fix the situation and so Loki did. He transformed into a mare and enticed the giant's steed. The horse ran off in pursuit of the transformed Loki and without them the giant was forced to finish the wall for free. Sometime later Loki returned with Sleipnir, an eight legged horse, and offered him to Wotan on one condition... he may never ask where it came from.
