Session 30

General Summary

The date is Monday, 3rd July

The time is 9:00 AM   We proceed west out of the big Grimlock cave, following the route of an underground stream.  
Built within the cave is a dwarven-style pergola. At one end is a chopping block, stained red with blood which has also spread across the floor. Many grimlocks cheer and howl as two bound humanoids are led out of a nearby cage. The humanoids look a little elven, but their features are far from beautiful and their hairless skin is yellow/brown.
  We burst in, all guns blazing. A load of magical fire and tidal waves obliterates most of the grimlocks and then we swiftly tidy up the rest.   The two strange humanoids grovel and cower while speaking to us in a language we don't understand - until Fyren uses a combination of the magic helm and elvish. They are Githzerai and were part of a group hunting Mind Flayers, but were separated from their companions and captured elsewhere in the Underdark. We speak with them in a friendly fashion before leaving them in peace and continuing to follow the underground stream further west.   Like vultures, a swarm of Grimlocks are tearing apart and feasting on the body of a giant bat-like creature. The smaller grimlocks defer to the larger and all bickering over the choice pieces. Fireball once again proves highly effective. These particular grimlocks include a Red Slaad in their midst, which Chi stuns and we swiftly despatch, followed by the remaining grimlocks.   We look to the north, seeking a place to rest. The floor of this cavern is immaculately clean. A dilapidated wagon is parked on one side, piles of wood lie about and resting against the wall are the odd pickaxe or shovel. A pair of large yellow blobs seem to ooze across the floor. Not for long.   We find a quiet corner and catch our breath.   The time is 10:30 AM  
A narrow stairway expertly tunnelled from the natural rock, descends steeply into inky blackness. The stairs open out into a long, wide, uneven tunnel. The walls are stained red with iron ore and have clearly been worked with metal tools. Here and there worn wooden scaffolding reaches up to the 20' high roof. Sounds like the scratchings of some giant rats can be heard echoing, seemingly from both directions
.   We continue exploring tunnels. Idris cunningly detects a Behir. He expertly kites it back to the group, while cleverly protecting them from its lightning breath. Chi bravely teleports in and stuns the behir, then we dogpile it.   At the back of the creature's lair is a pile of spoils, most of which are Grimlock spiked clubs and javelins - and also a magic shortsword that Chi takes.   We continue exploring tunnels. We run into a few nests of Rust Monsters, which seem to enjoy the iron-rich mining tunnels. We then run into some green slime.
