Mephis Nebula

The Mephis Nebula is a reflection/emission type nebula. The composition of the dust in the cloud of the nebula region are micron sized particles of carbon, iron, and silicates. 
The nebula region lies between The Union of Independent Worlds and The Republic territory. It is considered "lawless" due to an error in the treaty between the two Factions. The treaty does not officially recognize the region of the Mephis Nebula as belonging to either side. The demarcation line between them clearly marks the nebula as falling in UIW territory. However the Republic has never officially relinquished their claim on it and UIW has taken a hands-off approach. Because of this, the nebula region lies outside of any region of space with enforceable laws.
