Session 195 - Mines of Izora

General Summary

25th to 30th of Nuzyael (First Month of Spring) 724TR

The story so far

Jolanta, and her trusty bodyguard Blaine, are agents of the mysterious Order of the White Hand, hunting down unscrupulous mages and covering up magical mishaps.

Jolanta has learned the location of an old enemy, the undead, dwarf killing warlock, Rantucci, who escaped her clutches months ago. She, accompanied by Blaine and the Priest Otho, are tracking this monster down.

This is the continuation of Session 193 - Chamor's Egg.

Location - Kabloqu Trail near Misyn.

Part 1 - Dead Dwarves On A Mission

The characters rest up not far from the desecrated Dwarven Tomb they found. This proves to be a mistake; ancient dwarven corpses attack them in the dead of night. The Dwarven Wrights bone-chilling touch causes some concern, but they are eliminated. "More of Rantucci's vile minions," Jolanta thinks as she turns their bones to dust.

At a small river crossing, the trio notes a disturbance in the water; two River Trolls are preparing an ambush at a small ford. They attack and prove very dangerous, nearly eviscerating Blaine and badly hurting Otho with their iron-hard claws. Jolanta turns the heroes, Invisible, and they retreat, looking for another route across the river.

Location - Dygr River and Izora Mines near Kabloq.

Part 2 - The Mines of Izora

The next day the trio approaches one of the infamous Izora Mines and quickly discovers that it is occupied by guards in black with a skull symbol, miners, and a man in brown robes who have noted their approach. "Morgathians," Otho curses under his breath. He is more than willing to attack this group as the man in brown robes, a priest, approaches the trio with a friendly smile.

Their leader Sungai Mygeroff, a priest of Order of the Lord of Chaos, is curious and seeks to question the party. He happily tells Jolanta that he and the Miners Guild are digging for valuable treasures and asks if he can be of assistance. Jolanta tells him that she is searching for a 600-year-old undead killer of dwarves, which perks his interest. "Not one of my Master's creations," he comments.

He questions Jolanta, prying out as much information as possible, but does offer helpful advice. "What would an undead disciple of the foulspawner be looking for in these mountains?" In a friendly manner, he concludes, "Could the creature be looking for the tomb of his master? Legend has it is that Lothrim the Foulspawner was sealed into a tomb with staving Orcs in that mountain yonder". He points to Mt Anegif in the distance.

Jolanta thanks the helpful priest and exits. Otho whispers that he would not complain if she were to strike the priest and his companions with one of her Corrosive Blast spells. He appears quite serious, but Jolanta refrains from violence.

Part 3 - Magical Searching

Traveling through foothills and mountain passes is too slow for the impatient Jolanta. She decided to use her full magical abilities to speed up the process. She flies over the foothills and through mountains valley. This attracts the attention of strange flying stone elements, but she quickly deals with the Gargoyles.

Meanwhile, over a dozen Orcs from one of the nearby tribes spot Blaine and Otho. Without Jolanata's magical artillery, they are in for a fight. Both are badly injured as they try to fend off orcish berserkers and cowardly arches. Expertly Blaine severs the throat of an especially dangerous orc; he notes that his Sword Orc Bleeder seems to hum with energy. Whatever enchantment in the sword seems well satisfied as he kills the last of the foulspawn.

Jolanta's magical tracking eventually yields some success. She detects Rantucci's foul presence in the mountains. Still several days away by foot, near a ruined tower, but within range, and fortunately, he does not appear to be moving.

To be continued.

Lore
Forged in 604TR by the Dwarven Weapon Crafter Haddar Klarazhal for Sir Patryn Algelmor, Lord of Bromyl as a reward for saving his life from an Orc ambush.
The weapon was originally named Mensagh Edarisa in Dwarven or which translates to Foes Blood in Hârnic; however, Sir Patryn more crudely named it Orc Bleeder.
Clan Anglmor has since died out and the sword is in other hands.

Good on Jolanta for her live and let undead stance and walking away. Although I am sure those reprobates will get what is coming to them soon. BTW, I love, Orc Bleeder, anyone carrying this sword should be sure to get special attention!!!! Now it just needs a cool picture.
