Part 1 - Deals with the Disreputable
Avon has a delivery to make. He agreed to deliver a mysterious chest to Koral the Bloody, the ruthless head of Coranan's thieves guild. He disguises himself as a dirty poorper and makes his way to a grimly tavern known to be run by Koral's gang. Here he skilfully intimidates the staff and gets an audience.
Koral the Bloody casually arrives flanked by seasoned thugs, and Avon's disguise does not fool him for a second. "Well, well. We are honored, boys. A member of the guard comes visiting." Koral knows who Avon is and is very aware of his ambition to become a senator. After confirming that the seals on the chest are intact he takes it then and starts discussing other business.Koral casually mentions that he controls the votes of three Senators, and unfortunately, they "sadly" have it in their minds to vote against his inclusion in the senate.
Koral is confident he could persuade them to support Avon's senatorial bid. What he wants in return is his good name to be cleared. Koral's gang has been falsely accused of stealing a valuable book, Galopea's Recipes of the Gods, and he wants it returned to its rightful owner, Melical Varoos of the Golden Pantry. The victim, a popular caterer, has many friends among the city's rich and powerful. This is drawing heat and attention to Koral's other operations.
The book has been stolen by a rival thieves guild from across the river. The Kuseme Guild refuses to pay tribute to his organization. Avon gets the impression that Koral will be delighted if his competitors are eliminated, but he does not directly say so. However, Koral strangely refuses to name any members or the location of their guild hall. After all, according to the thieves' code of honor, they must never betray fellow guildsmen.
Location - Kostim Hamlet of the Kingdom of Kanday.
Part 2 - Knights of the Silver Swords
Meanwhile, Acheron returns to the Abbey of St Andrada and reports to the leader of the Argent Order, Father Chavoshka. He updates him with recent events and the disturbing revelation that one of the order's Brothers has been possessed by evil. Halidon is now an undead monster who, unfortunately, knows much of the order's secrets.Father Chavoshka takes precautions, increases security, and sends messages to agents and allies in the field.
Uncle Thydox, the abbeys' Master of Tala Ma, the Way of the Silver fist martial arts fighting style, spends time training Acheron. He is impressed with Acheron's progress and takes this opportunity to teach him a few more tricks.Father Chavoshka instructs Acheron to return to the Thardic Republic and find a way to stop the Church of Morgath's schemes, especially their ongoing plot to corrupt and place Marshall Kronas in supreme power. And, if possible, prevent a war.
Location - City of Coranan in the Thardic Republic.
Part 3 - A Famous Book
Acheron rejoins with the party in the City of Coranan as Avon and Jolanta begin their investigations.
Avon knows little about the Kuseme Thieves guild but much about smuggling and shady dealings. He makes his way to the dock and observes the going on and soon overhears suspicious keywords, phrases, and hand signals (i.e., Thieves Cant) being used. He is not disappointed; this leads to a warehouse in the center of the town. An obvious front, he sneaks in, finding nothing immediately suspicious, but his search is interrupted. He is detected by three thugs but makes a successful escape (The DM rolled three natural 20s in a row when making the thugs perception checks). However, the rogues are now alerted.
Meanwhile, Jolanta investigates the crime scene. The Ashen Memories spell reveals the thief was a Spellcaster, a wizard using magic to steal the book. At the city's Guildhall of Arcane Lore, she identifies the culprit, one Tommas Devin, known for explosive magic. Next, a casting of Locate Object reveals the book is underground in the Kuseme township, directly under the building Avon just investigated.
Part 4 - Raiding the Guild
The party considers its options. A direct assault is deemed too risky, so they check under the docks for access points to the city's water waterways and primitive sewer system. Acheron's sense of direction is impeccable and leads the heroes through waterlogged passages into a series of interconnected basement buildings.
They emerge from a side passage to the flank of five thugs. The thugs are on guard, preparing to ambush anyone entering through a stairwell from a building above. Caught by surprise, the would-be ambushers are quickly eliminated.
Avon scouts ahead while Jolanta disintegrates the bodies. He finds a large cavern, three feet deep in water, and notices an acrid smell. He spots a figure, a sniper, lurking in the shadow. On closer inspection, he notes two large creatures almost completely immersed. These rare Ivashu are known as Welfynn or more commonly known as the Rust Monsters.
