Snam Sapphireseeker
Snam Sapphireseeker stands uncomfortably tall for a dwarf with long lanky limbs. Born in the year 1460, his unusual traits lead those who know him to suspect he has human ancestry. Only able to grow patchy stubble, Snam keeps himself clean-shaven, maintaining it’s simply a fashion choice. He keeps his dark hair cropped short to match.
When conversing, Snam often hesitates, a trait most people assume to denote a lack of confidence. However, he simply takes time to completely think though his statements, always conscious of how to make the best argument. His parents would talk about sending him to attend one the academies of Waterdeep or Neverwinter, but they never could find the money.
Growing up in the small town of Secomber, Snam spent most of his early life surrounded by humans and halflings. His father constructed farmhouses and barns, and his mother worked as a farmhand for a local orchard. Early in his adolescence, border disputes between city-states and a wave of blight shattered Secomber’s fragile economy. Snam’s mother lost her job as several orchards closed down, and a short time later, his father developed a debilitating sickness. To his father’s disappointment, Snam proved to have no talent for working with wood and was unable to find employment in the small town.
When a Caravan Guard told stories of a newly discovered mithril vein, Snam set out in hope of finding any job to support his parents. Through a lucky break, he joined up with the same caravan that a wealthy elf had hired to transport several paintings to a mansion in Charlamaine Hill. Over the lengthy journey, Snam struck up a friendship with the elf’s representative (a halfling named Welton Aimright), who was suitably impressed with his mild-mannered intelligence and drive. Upon their arrival, Welton introduced Snam to his employer, the reclusive Oryn Carmaya, and suggested Snam would be a good fit for that empty courier position. After a brief interview, Carmaya hired Snam to run messages wherever required. He currently rents a room in the underground neighborhood of Mythrilgrist, seeking to learn more about his dwarven heritage.
Snam knows that he isn’t making enough money to fully support himself and send some back to Secomber, so he has started talks of forming the Mythrite courier's guild. He hopes that any form of organization will allow him to approach Carmaya with a bargaining chip to negotiate for a higher wage. Furthermore, he looks at how the residents of Charlamaine Hill treat the working class with distaste, but he also knows he benefits from the current system. Every night he wonders if he’d be willing to give up the only job he’s got, his only way of sending money to his parents, if it means the workers of Mythrite would get to see a fair share of the wealth they unearth.
