The Mithril Oath

There are some select individuals within Mythrite that believe that the very same mithril the town has become known for is a sign from the heavens, or that it holds spiritual properties at the very least depending on who you ask. They’ll tell you how mithril is the reward of man for unlocking the beauty that lies beneath the surface of the earth. And how that beauty, now plucked from the ravaged earth, should be shared with the world and crafted into the finest pieces. Others, more pessimistic believers, will tell you that mithril is a sign of horrors to come. And to disregard its alluring beauty and quality. They’ll preach to you that finding mithril is a warning sign- and maybe even liken it to whatever vibrant-colored, and most likely toxic animal they can think of. And they’ll cry that taking too much from the world in which we live could unleash unseemly amounts of horror and chaos that lies below us.   The mithril presents its beauty and terror side by side to its believers. And it is with those two components that the worshippers of mithril have created an almost poetically ironic monument to the coveted metal- that being the Mithril Oath.   The Mithril Oath is a well crafted by uneven ores of mithril that reaches deeply into the world below, with no one being able to peer down and see the water ripple at the bottom of it. It’s a reminder of the endless possibilities that one has with creating with mithril. It’s a metaphor of all that we can’t possibly know and should fear. To the believers that feel their souls sing with that of the mithril- it’s a lesson.
