Session 04: The Fall of Fell
General Summary
The party engaged the kobolds in their cavern lair. The winged kobold leader, Fell, rushed in to aid the kobolds on his dire weasel mount, Slinker. However, even with Fell’s aid, the kobolds fell before the party’s strength. Fell tried to take wing to escape, but he was cut down and slain before he was able to escape.
With the kobolds dispatched, the party found the pen where three wolf pups were being kept. They were hesitant when first rescued, seeming to be used to suffering abuse. However, the three pups quickly took to Levi’s affinity and began to wrestle and play with him, ultimately following him around.
The party also found Fell’s chamber which contained a number of items and treasures, including two ornately carved boxes, a small ceramic jar containing what Illevaere identified as ‘rust mold’, a leather mask of a fey creature of Elvish design, a large silver nugget, a tiny gold armband that could fit on a little finger, a nice folded cloak, and three potions. There were also numerous silver coins as well as a few gold coins. Illevaere determined that the bag of mushrooms in the loot were poisonous and they left them behind, taking everything else with them.
On the way out, the party returned to the captive kobolds. Even upon hearing of his defeat, the belligerent kobold continued to threaten the party’s demise. He was rendered unconscious and left in the care of the second kobold who determinedly pointed out that the other kobold ‘did not speak for him’. He was released on the condition that he leave with his unconscious comrade and not return, which he accepted.
The party returned to the caravan, which was unmolested in their absence. During the first watch of the night, however, the Old Black Wolf of the Hills was seen in the distance, watching the group. The party approached it, but those approaching were overcome with fear, save for Levi who continued his approach. Even the pups who followed Levi refused to go near the Old Wolf. The wolf disappeared and seemed to possess Levi, who turned and approached the pups, getting on all fours and nuzzling them before the spirit seemed to fade and Levi was himself again.
The party continued with the caravan, escorting it back to Eastbridge without further incident. Once there, they were paid by Bertram Breeze for the safe transport of both caravans, with the promised bonus for clearing the obstacles of further travel. The party then visited the tax collector of Eastbridge, Erastus Beard, and paid their promised “good faith” payment on their back taxes. Erastus brokered a deal with the party to continue with monthly payments of 200 gold until the taxes are paid off.
Now, given a bit of breathing room before the next payment is due, the party decided to see what they could find in Eastbridge for employment.
