Kaspen Hush
“Take what you can, give nothing freely.” -unofficial mottoKaspen Hush refers to the secretive cartel that funnels illicit goods in a secretive manner. It originally began as a legitimate business, promising those who used its’ services that their products would remain of the utmost secrecy. It then slowly took on more and more illicit deals until it has morphed into a full blown smuggling ring. Since a major ring was busted in the Empire it has now been working its way into the colony’s young market. Things trafficked by Kaspen Hush include but are not limited to:
- Poisons
- Deadly Plants
- Wild Animals
- Magical Materials
- High Valued Goods
- Drugs, Potions, and Herbs not easily found
People- Contraband goods
Structure
Kaspen Hush is best described as a far reaching franchise, with each franchisee under fealty to the head of the organization.
The Head: Mr. Quiet, is the main bookeeper and arbiter, in charge of running and facilitating the group's massive reach. They are shrouded in mystery, with only those who work directly with them knowing their identity. Mr. Quiet almost never reaches out to others, rather will send a liaison to act on their behalf. Mr. Quiet has a very unique stamp and signature with all their correspondents, and any who attempt to forge it can be instantly recognized by a well established Husher.
Husher: A Husher is one who runs a Franchise of Kaspen Hush, with reach ranging from a single town to an entire region. These individuals work directly with smugglers, traders, and other members of other factions to keep their operation running. Often these individuals are influential people in their own right, else they would not be recognized as proper members of Kaspen Hush. Each Husher tends to specialize in moving a specific contraband, but it is not uncommon for a Husher to move different products. It is also not uncommon for Hushers within close proximity to compete with one another.
Minions: Hushers each have their own structure regarding their minions. Some have a smaller top down organization structure, while others are more loose. A Husher has ultimate say over who joins their organization, and how it is run. Often times minions are simply grunts who work for legitimate business that skim products or profits off the top, or have legitimate jobs that they use to front their illegitimate hustles. The easiest way to tell whom is a minion is by a purple handkerchief, bearing the Kaspen Hush insignia, which often shows which franchise they are part of as well.
Culture
Throughout the organization, competitiveness goes hand and hand with cooperation. However this does not often manifest in moral or altruistic ways. This is due to the nature of what is bought, sold, and moved within the organization.
Smaller criminal organizations are often absorbed or overtaken by larger, more established and organized Kaspen Hush cells. Those who do not comply are often assassinated or neutralized, and those that do are expected to follow their Husher without question. This encourages criminal groups to see Kaspen Hush as both dangerous and effective, and are thus more encouraged to play along lest their fears of being destroyed or killed see reality.
Each member of Kaspen Hush, from Husher to minions, must tap into a vice or need in their respective area to survive. Being at odds with the law also tends to weed out those too timid or too straight laced, and often catches up with those unwilling or unable to make deals with non-law abiding citizens in a bad way. Because of this, the competitiveness often manifests as cutthroatness, and cooperation is often a stopgap until one side exploits an advantage.
In sum, those with the cunning, strength, and drive can be quite successful, but one must always be wary of any that would usurp your own hard earned power.
Public Agenda
Kaspen Hush works in the shadows, and does not have a single unified agenda. However, one thing each cell has in common is that they are willing to provide goods or services that either the Empire or Lord's Alliance has deemed illegal or immoral.
Because of this, the agenda in each Kaspen Hush will vary. However, it can often be assumed they are in the business of seizing power, making money, and crushing any who stand in their way.
Assets
Kaspen Hush often works with other illicit organizations, and sometimes individuals in legitimate ones, to push their wares. They are currently in cahoots with the following organizations:
- Kurai Kokuja: handles their wetwork and information gathering. In return Kaspen Hush keeps them supplied with goods and work.
- Shadowed Heart: connections to magical studies and goods allow both to move one another's products. Working in secrecy allows them to remain hidden.
- Vile Horde: Works as the groups muscle. A tenuous relationship.
