Melāny Rarel was born on a cold winter's evening in the Rarel estate. Her parents raised her to be kind and thoughtful, though they did have a somewhat restricted amount of wealth, which also taught her patience, humility, and frugality. When Melāny was four, her parents donated to the Crescent Enclave on Rothory Lake to take her and train her in the druidic arts. She enjoyed her lessons and the life it granted her, but most of all, she loved the friends she had made.
By the time she was a teen, she, Kaya, and Petor had all been friends for years. However, when she was sixteen, a rift began to form, and the friendship began to drift apart, though not cruelly. At the age of twenty she was given her mark by Archdruid Parsin, and two years later Petor formally began to court her, and she was happy with this; though it only further strained her friendship with Kaya. She stayed at the Enclave until Kaya left, then she and Petor went to Holhawk Halls as their courting continued. Melāny is from a branch family of House Mosslyn, though when her uncles, aunts, and all but one of her cousins in the main and secondary branch died in the past five months due to illness, she and her parents inherited the assumed control of the dwindling family. Reports state that they died due to a degenerative hereditary disease. As the last child of House Mosslyn she is suddenly caught in the midst of geopolitical issues and the fate of her house rests on her tiring, timid shoulders. She, and her parents fear that they may also have this disease.
