The Great Dragon War

The Great Dragon War (a.k.a. the Rise of Valthor) was a cataclysmic event from 1402 tot 1404, which saw the ascension of Valthor to godhood.
Valthor, an ancient dragon lord from the Old Kingdom defeated by the Heroes of Old in 3E:800, returned in 1402 from his ethereal prison in the  Void. From then started to assemble an army of dragons and Dragon Lords  for his cause: becoming the God of Dragons. He assembled his forces form the ancient fortress of Skuldafn in the Old Kingdom (see Valthor for an explanation on Dragon Lords).
After gathering enough followers, Valthor set course for the Dragontail mountains, as it was here that he hoped to use a portal to cross to the realm of Akatosh, god of Dragons, and take his place. As Valthor expected the dragons following Akatosh to put up resistance, he used the lands of The Night's Watch as a staging ground for his war, effectively bringing them under his reign for several months. It was during this time that it was revealed one of the Strongborn children had survived the Assassin's War and that he too was Dragonborn. This Eric I Strongborn travelled to his ancestral tomb at Aingherm in The Dauer Mountains and learned the secret to taking a dragon form, becoming a Dragon Lord. As Valthor led his dragon horde to the Dragontail Mountains, Eric Strongborn led the dragons following Akatosh in a large scale aerial battle. Despite fierce resistance Valthor succeeded in reaching Akatosh' realm of Cloud Ruler city and defeating the Dragon God and taking his place. Eric Strongborn survived the ordeal at the Dragontail Mountains, returning to Gotha to resume his title as its dragon king.
