Tommy is an anxious young man who is traveling the country in search of a way to cure his sister who has been transformed into a rat. He is struggling to overcome his fear of the supernatural and remorse over his past mistakes. After traveling around for about a year, he has learned how to defend himself and manipulate others to get what he wants. Tommy grew up in a lower class household that struggled to get by. He was taught at an early age that he would have to work twice as hard and be twice as smart as the average man if he ever wanted to make something out of himself. His father worked hard to give them what they had, but was rather stern with Tommy. His mother was never happy with what they had and would constantly argue with his father over their poor status. His younger sister, Nelly, was favored by far by their parents. Despite this, Tommy had a close relationship with her and saw his sister as an angel who always cared for him. He also has a maternal uncle named Theo, who against all odds rose to become a well-off business man. Theo had offered their family money in the past, but Tommy's father was too stubborn to accept a handout.CAREER
Tommy is a Vagabond, who travels from place to place without a home. About a year ago, a Vaettir transformed his sister into a rat. His parents did not believe him when he tried to explain what happened to her, so they kicked him out of their home. He is currently traveling all over the country, both by foot and by stowing onto trains, looking for a way to turn her back. Tommy is miserable about his current life and dreams of returning home, but will not stop until he finds a solution. He has also grown somewhat accustomed to living on the streets and has learned tricks for survival.BELIEFS
Tommy was raised Christian, but no longer believes due to too many of his prayers going unanswered. On the other hand, he does believe in an afterlife. He had a direct experience with a Vaettir, making him a steadfast believer in the occult. Though after a year without seeing another supernatural creature has left him slightly wary if what he saw was real. He is only aware of one type of spirit, but many fearful nights on his own have left him open to the possibility of there being more supernatural creatures.MOTIVATIONS
- Liberation - To free the self and/or others from perceived captivity or enslavement: Tommy's younger sister, Nelly was turned into a rat by a Vaettir and he is desperately searching for a way to free her from her curse. He is actively searching for any supernatural means to turn her back and is willing to do anything to save her.
- Tranquility - to live a life with minimal conflict or disturbance: He was raised with the ambition to eventually earn enough money to live a comfortable life. Though after encountering a Vaettir, being for forced out of his home, and living on the streets, all he wants is to return home. He dreams of eventually saving his sister so that his parents welcome him back, then living a quiet, peaceful life where he'll hopefully never encounter a supernatural creature again.
FAST FACTS
- Accomplishment most proud of: Despite his poorer background, Tommy is rather studious, often going through books in the library. While his father thinks he's wasting his time, he is secretly proud that he has surpassed his family in knowledge and education.
- Most ashamed about: When Tommy and his sister encountered a Vaettir, he ran away and hid, leaving her in the creature's clutches. Thus, his younger sister was turned into a rat while he was spared. He is ashamed of his cowardice and failure to protect her.
- Fears more than anything: Tommy is terrified by the creatures of the occult, but only because he fears dying before being able to save his sister.
- Secrets kept: Tommy is hiding that the pet rat that he carries with him is secretly his sister Nelly who has been transformed by a Vaettir. He also hides his reasons for traveling, telling people that he is just on his way to visit his uncle. He also plays up his youth and nervousness so that people don't suspect that he's actually rather skilled at manipulating people and stronger than he looks.
- Last time they wept: Tommy wept when he was kicked out of his home since he was unable to convince his parents that his sister was turned into a rat and they instead accused him of harming her.
RELATIONS
- Friends: Tommy had two or three friends back home, but he had to leave them behind when he started traveling. Nowadays, he has several acquaintances spread all over due to his travels. They would generally describe him as someone quiet and fretful. Though those who know him well can tell that he is more clever than he lets on.
- Romance: Tommy has never been romantically involved with anyone and dating isn't high on his priorities at the moment. He does dream of eventually settling down though.
- Role Model: Tommy looks up to his uncle Theo, who was born in a similarly poor background but managed to become a well-off business man through years of hard work.
MEMENTO
Tommy's memento is his pet rat. This rat is actually his younger sister Nelly, who was transformed into a rodent by a Vaettir. He is carrying her around in hopes of curing her condition, and works to keep her safe.ADVANTAGE
Tommy can be easily fearful, but whenever he feels scared or hurt he can pet his rat to calm down and think clearly. This is because the rat his his transformed sister Nelly who he is working to cure. Petting her not only comforts him, but reminds him of his mission.EQUIPMENT
Tommy carries a walking stick, a knife, and a bottle of liquor. He uses the walking stick to keep steady or use as a makeshift weapon in a pitch. His knife is for self defense, but can also be used to threaten people, cut things, or pry things open. The bottle of liquor was gifted to him by another homeless man. He hasn't drunken any of it yet, but carries it around if he ever needs to bribe or barter.Relationships
History
When Tommy first arrived in Munson, he looked for someone who could discreetly tell him about the townsfolk. His unlikely solution came in the form of Cleveland Rogers, who he first came across peeking through someone's window. While Tommy can tell that Cleveland isn't all there upstairs, he found that he's very forthcoming with information (a little too much so). In Tommy's brief time in Munson so far, Cleveland has sought him out on more than one occasion to run his mouth about whatever he's seen that day. Tommy suspects that Cleveland is trying to be his friend since they are similar ages. While he's a bit wary of Cleveland, Tommy knows better than to judge someone else over their odd behavior. Though, Tommy would prefer that Cleveland not walk up to him in public since he'd rather not get a bad reputation in Munson.
History
Tommy has read all of Amos' musings a papers about the occult events in Munson, even before having his own supernatural incident. So when his sister was transformed into a rat by a Vaettir, Tommy wrote Amos a letter detailing the situation as a desperate plea for help. Unfortunately, he was forced to leave his home and begin traveling without ever knowing if Amos sent a reply letter. Regardless, Tommy has traveled to Munson in hopes that Amos may be of help to him, or at the very least may believe his story.
History
Vera is more of a rival/nuisance than an actual adversary. Tommy first became aware of Cleveland's loud mouth when he blabbed about how he was looking into supernatural incidents to Vera, who immediately lectured him about the sinfulness of his interests. Tommy resents Vera for being everything he's not, being a religious, well-educated, and wealthy woman, and considers her rather condescending. Tommy would rather just avoid her if possible, and dreads the possibility that she may spread the word about his business in Munson. That said, he doesn't necessarily consider her an enemy, more so an annoyance, since she's literally the second person he met in town.
