Dhamtir desert

Dhamtir desert is a hot desert near Iwatik prone to severe dust storms.

Geography

Tucked behind some of the tallest peaks of the Kugma Mountains is a small flat desert. There are no major rivers that run through it, but there is a major river that flows underneath it. The Gìzluh river flows from the mountains and then reappears above ground near Iwatik before it empties out to the Pezu Ocean.

Ecosystem

The only rain that occurs is residual splashes from cyclones that wander from the West, as it is tucked behind the rainshadow of the Kugma mountains.   Flora and fauna that survive in the dry heat are those that can maintain their own sources of water when water becomes available. Occasional oases dot the landscape, and fighting for access to water is a default way of living for Dhamtir flora and fauna.

Ecosystem Cycles

Besides being very dry, the desert can reach extreme temperatures. In the winter, there are sharp winds that bring the temperatures deep into the negatives; in the summer, the temperature can regularly reach over 100 °F (38 °C).

Localized Phenomena

Dhamtir dust storms can occur. Magicians can use their powers with the heightened sounds of the rushing particles in the air and gusts of wind.

Fauna & Flora

While the deserts north of Kugmak are populated with day, desert dogs, the shezgig, Iwatik hyena is the most populous predator.

Natural Resources

Hidden deep in the sand dunes are silver and gold deposits. The people of Iwatik have just discovered them.
