Levegi's Spoon

Levegi ran the island Labu from a fabulous dwelling in the center of the island, guarded by first-rate criminals who came to her lands to escape punishment for crimes on Yalisi. Newcomers to the island gave gifts of money and goods to Levegi when they first arrived in order to be granted safe harbor, and it was well-known that Levegi loved items that enhanced her natural beauty. Bottles of makeup powders were a common gift. Levegi used her silver cosmetic spoon to scoop out powder before applying the color to her face.   After Levegi was killed by her lover for not adhering to his faith, her house was ransacked by anyone and everyone. Most of her items were stripped and sold for cash, but her spoon was stolen by someone who gave it to their child, whereupon it became a family heirloom. The family practiced the Libo faith and it became a symbol of the danger posed by the Vopa. Eventually the spoon became a well-loved object by members of the Libo faith and came to be shared among many people to individually pray on it and receive wisdom from Vesi directly.

Manufacturing process

Levegi had been known as a poor silversmith over her lifetime, and it is unknown whether Levegi herself made the spoon or if it was made by someone else and given as a gift.

Significance

Levegi became a martyr for the Libo faith due to her refusal to adhere to the Vopa religion. Adherents to Libo tend to engage in private prayer and religious practice at home, and so the spoon became a shared object that is passed between different people in order to commune with the martyr.

I love how important something as seemingly trivial as a spoon can become when you give it a story. Well done!
