History
When good King Arman Battlesworn died prematurely of an illness, his twin sons, Archon and Ardent were left arguing over who would take over the throne. Archon claimed the throne was his by right due to being the elder twin, and Ardent claimed more popularity with the people gave him a greater claim to the throne. The argument ended with Ardent vowing to prove his point and riding south to visit the Countslords in the lower half of the country. Ardent was a beloved leader in the military, and his battalions had come from the southern regions, so he was sure he could garner support for his claim. The lower Countslords agreed with Ardent that he was a much more fitting ruler, and that he had worked for it by walking among and fighting side by side with his people. Archon had been given charge of the northern armies, but he was more interested in studying law and how to run a country than he was in fighting alongside his men, and his support was based more on loyalty to the crown than loyalty to him. After a short conflict, the two countries ended up splitting, giving Archon control over the north, and Ardent control in the south.
