Northern Usmina

Northern Usmina is a predominantly human nation located in Central Aisoa, between the Great Forest and the Cradle.   Prior to 3924 EC, Northern Usmina was the northern section of the larger nation of Usmina. After the fall of Illeron, the remainder of Usmina's military destroyed the bridges along the Freemond River.   The remaining government of Usmina has not yet ceded its southern territory, though other nations have taken to calling it Northern Usmina.

Structure

After the royal family of Usmina was killed in the siege of Illeron, the Usminan military took control of the remainder of the country. The Grand General leads the nation, and below him fall the high generals of the Usminan army, and regional leaders.   The constitution of Usmina was never formally changed to declare next in line of the country, and it remains unclear who would legally be able to claim rulership of the nation if peace were declared.

Grand General

The role and title of 'Grand General' is one that only exists during war time, and the holder of the title is chosen by the Usminan royalty directly. Upon taking the role, tradition dictates that the holder forfeits their given name, and is referred to only as the Grand General. When peace time is redeclared, their name is restored.   This tradition dates back hundreds of years, and originates from a time when Usminan high generals would profit heavily from wars - both monetarily and socially. After Grand General Ramiz Sonam's attempted coup, this tradition was created to ensure that any Grand General was acting for the good of the country and to increase their own station.   The current Grand General's given name is Bertok Uhsle.

Public Agenda

Northern Usmina has been fighting to regain control of Illeron and the land south of the Freemond River. Most bridges along the deep, wide river were destroyed when the military fled after the Siege of Illeron, so the majority of fighting is around those that still exist, and around the construction or destruction of new bridges.   The high generals and nobility of the country scheme and plan for who might become the new royal family of Usmina when peace is declared, and the Grand General steps down. There is no distinct frontrunner, leaving much of the country's future hanging in the balance.
