Gorget

As the name would suggest, Gorget is a military town built around an impressive fort set to guarding the Throat. Unlike most other defensive structures in the Central Dominance, which have more or less all fallen into disrepair, the Empire takes special care to keep Gorget fully manned and in peak condition at all time.
This being due to the fear of a Southern revolt is unlikely to me, however seeing a fort of this magnitude guarding the only safe land crossing out of the South would undoubtedly serve as something of a deterrent.

Defences

Although serving now as a township, Gorget is first and foremost a fortress, and the hardiest in the Empire at that. With walls more than 10ft at their thinnest, more than 15 on the south side, and supposedly laced with powerful and ancient magic dating back to the dawn era.
In times of crisis, and commonly during The Darkening, each crenellation can be fitted with a 36-pound cannon capable of deterring even the most persistent of invaders. No attack against the fort has ever been launched by air, however I can safely assume that a fort of this magnitude would have at least a cursory air defence.

Architecture

All buildings within Gorget must be constructed in a strictly regimented fashion to allow for quick travel of troops within its walls and out. All buildings must be made of stone to ensure an attack of fire would be ineffective.

Geography

Gorget is situated at the thinnest points of the throat, and from its highest tower one can clearly see both banks of the central sea.
